There are a few things I consider to be the most important. First, be honest, if we don't know how to do it well we can not teach. Then, be patient, sometimes it is hard for students to absorb all the knowledge. And we should be a good listener, and willing to share our own learning experiences. I had experience in teaching math and guitar, all my…

I believe tutoring doesn't only mean transferring knowledge to your students but providing them with a goal and vision to excel in life. Also, I believe tutors should keep themselves updated with new concepts to keep their students updated. I think my greatest strength is patience and communication. A tutor can notice the student's strength and nourish it through a structured set of activities that the student can do in class as well as independently. A tutor can also notice the areas of student's weaknesses and supply the student with a learning program that can tackle these weaknesses gradually and methodically. Additionally, a tutor is a…

In my view, teacher is the most important person for a student after their parents. School level students spend more time with their teachers than with their parents. So, a tutor can be an inspirational model for an student. When I was in my school, I used to copy a lot of things of my favorite teacher like the way of speaking, hands movement…

The most important things for a tutor to do for a student is ensure their confidence stems from understanding not just knowing the answer to a question but instead the theory behind it. A tutor should ensure a student understands the theory behind a concept and how they got their rather than the finishing product. Through this, a tutor gives a…

Firstly, I believe the philosophy of "Teaching to fish rather than giving a fish. " It suggests that the tutor has a responsibility to inspire her students to take further exploration in the subject and cultivate good learning habits. Secondly, I think encouragement is essential in tutoring. Being as a tutor, I would let my student know that they…

Patience and an emphatic approach to teaching are essential for a tutor. Students may lack confidence, be overwhelmed with material, and be stressed. Therefore, it's important to be considerate and patient. This approach can also help understand students' misconceptions and errors by being patient, and listening to students can reveal what areas…

Local Reviews

William is fantastic for our daughter. He has already taught her a lot (filling in some gaps that she had missed as well as preparing her for exams) and she is feeling very positive about the progress they have made. Will is very patient with her but also confident enough to help her. Couldn't be happier.

Inside GungahlinTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Josh focused on applying the sine and cosine rule to solve non-right-angled triangle problems, then practised using bearings in trigonometry contexts.

Year 11 student Mia worked through differentiation basics, tackling both the power rule and first principles for finding derivatives with step-by-step examples.

For Year 12, Liam covered projectile motion by analysing trajectories and initial velocities, and also explored momentum conservation during collisions using diagrams to clarify each scenario.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student struggled to bring their maths notebook and repeatedly left homework incomplete; "past test papers have been said to be damaged and cannot be brought back," which made it difficult to review past mistakes or build on previous learning.

In Year 10, one student finished their homework at 3am and admitted not understanding the working until prompted with hints, highlighting weak study routines and late-night cramming.

Another senior student forgot to take notes for half the lesson, missing important steps—this left gaps that resurfaced during revision.

During a timed quiz in Year 9, time management issues led to a 30-minute task dragging out for an hour, leaving less room for content practice.

Recent Achievements

In Gungahlin, a Year 11 student who used to freeze up under timed conditions began using positive self-talk and now finishes on-the-spot questions more quickly during test prep.

Another high schooler, after struggling with the fundamentals of circular motion last term, was able to clearly explain the topic back to the tutor and confidently solve B-level problems without hesitation.

A younger student who had been hesitant to check their answers independently now routinely backchecks their work when unsure—something they'd avoided before—and guided the tutor through several practice questions step by step.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We are very happy with Aurelius, he has turned something that was "like another language" (according to Aaron) into something he understands and has found his first test easy. We intend to hold onto Aurelius for as long as he wants to coach Aaron.

I think one of the most valuable things I got out of working with Ezy Math is the skills I developed through being a tutor. I was learning a great deal by teaching others, gaining valuable and relevant skills such as effective communication, leadership, management and organisation. It was also extremely rewarding to witness my students progress and gain confidence over the course of tutoring them.

I'm really happy with my tutor Karen which has helped me a lot with my work so far, she really does help me with my errors and to understand my topic and it has made a difference to my learning and I'm more ahead of the class now. I would really like to thank this company for letting me try and push my ability to my greatest. I hope the rest of year stays the same and once again thank it had made a big difference.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Gungahlin Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Gungahlin College.
