Personally, a tutor is someone outside of school who the student can rely on for their studies. Students show their vulnerability here so that tutor can build them to be strong at school. So a tutor can help the student be strong on their subjects and understand the subject with life. Understanding the student on what they need first and being…

I think a tutor should provide a fun, engaging and different approach to studying. A tutor should ask questions in a way a teacher hasn't got the time to do. They should always ask what the student wants and implement strategies as to how to attain these goals. But, perhaps at the forefront of responsibility, a tutor should always make sure the…

The responsibilities of a tutor extend far beyond just teaching their students. We must act as positive role models who encourage personal growth and confidence, making students feel self-assured in their academic performance. No matter what challenges a student encounters, tutors must be an anchor that compels them to get back up and triumph over…

Inside GwynnevilleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Olivia worked through projectile motion by resolving movement into horizontal and vertical components, and briefly touched on circular motion concepts.

Year 11 student James focused on ionic compounds, specifically calculating molar mass and balancing charges in molecules using worked examples.

Meanwhile, Year 5 student Mason practised long division (such as 224 Ă· 7) and learned how to add fractions with different denominators like 1/3 + 1/2, sometimes using visual aids for clarity.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student preparing for financial maths exams struggled to distinguish between annuity and other finance terms; as a tutor noted, "she missed which formula to use because the key words weren't clear." This led to wasted time and incomplete answers.

In Year 9 algebra, one student avoided writing out steps, often jumping straight to an answer—"I can do this in my head," he insisted—but sign errors crept in and checking was impossible.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner hesitated with fraction addition, repeatedly second-guessing herself and erasing correct answers until reassurance was given. Confidence faltered mid-question.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Gwynneville noticed Sierra has started managing multi-part maths questions more independently by first reading the question and then identifying only the relevant information—a big shift from her earlier habit of feeling overwhelmed.

Another win came when a Year 11 chemistry student began accurately balancing charges for chemical formulas and started working out molar masses with much less hesitation than before.

Meanwhile, Victoria in primary school recently solved two-digit multiplication problems with almost no mistakes, remembering to add down the zero—something she used to struggle to recall.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mobile Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Brigid's Catholic Primary School.
