A tutor is an important role and a mentor. Students select tutors because they have the enthusiasm to learn and perhaps do not have the resources needed which a tutor can fill in. I am calm, patient and have an insight to give my best so that people can benefit from me. I want children to excel and do well beyond they can dream…

The special thing about a tutor compared to a classroom teacher is that tutors deal with students on a much more personal level, with this, I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to understand and relate to the student personally his/her insights on the subject. Tutors can try to understand why the student either love,…

Inside Harrington ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Kyle reviewed fractions and percentages, working through examples to build confidence.

For Year 11, Patrick tackled trigonometry—specifically sine and cosine rules for non-right angled triangles—and practiced interpreting Position vs. Time graphs to distinguish between distance and displacement.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Kris focused on HSC English essay writing by analysing stimulus prompts and refining paragraph structure for extended responses.

Recent Challenges

Homework completion and organization were recurring challenges across multiple year levels. For example, a Year 12 student repeatedly did not complete assigned practice tests: "Homework was not completed last week. Homework has been again sent to his email address."

In Physics (Year 11), difficulty recalling key equations without prompts slowed progress during revision activities.

Another senior student struggled with essay planning—feedback highlighted that structuring ideas before writing essays was inconsistent, despite teacher advice.

Messy or incomplete note-taking appeared in Year 10 Maths, where clearer layout and colour coding were recommended for easier review later.

These gaps meant time in sessions was spent reteaching basics instead of advancing to deeper problem-solving.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Harrington Park noticed Kyle, a high school physics student, now brings a dedicated notebook to sessions and actively writes his own study notes—something he hadn't done before—which has helped him clearly distinguish tricky concepts like static vs. kinetic friction.

Another win: Ava, also in high school, began explaining her mathematical approach out loud before solving problems; this shift from silent working to verbal reasoning marks new independence in tackling equations.

For a younger student, Loretta has moved from simply reading stories to pinpointing the main events herself and spotting grammatical errors as she reads aloud.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Mitch has been so wonderful with Nick and is doing an amazing job tutoring Nick, especially getting Nick focused on completing his maths homework. He has worked with Nick so well and has established a great working relationship with him. His patient demeanor is certainly a strong attribute and has made tutoring for Nick so much easier.  Nick has commented several times that 'he has learnt more with Mitch today than he has all week with his teacher'.

I am delighted with Domenic's tutoring. I was concerned about how the tutoring would go because Jake struggles with a high level of anxiety but Domenic has put him at his ease.  He has engaged very well with my son, and is enthusiastic, encouraging, knowledgable and organised. He explains concepts in a way that Jake can grasp them: Jake has had at least one 'ah-ha' moment in every session. Domenic is also always punctual and polite. He has made a big difference already to Jett's confidence and performance at Maths. I look forward to having him continue to tutor Jake through his HSC.

We are certainly happy and off to a great start. Edward has been great, punctual & helpful. I am confident this  trend will continue and George's math will only improve.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Narellan Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Harrington Park Public School.
