Recent Challenges
Several senior students, such as those in Year 11 and 12 Physics and Methods, had not completed enough independent revision between sessions—one tutor observed, "Hadn't done much revision between our last two sessions so needs to get plenty done before his two tests."
In a recent proof-writing task for Year 10 Maths, missing the first steps led to confusion about which equations to use.
Meanwhile, a Year 8 student struggled to remember how she solved time conversion problems from one week to the next; retention faltered without consistent practice. This left her unsure during homework and slower when new questions appeared.
Recent Achievements
One Hawthorndene tutor noticed a Year 9 student who had previously hesitated to ask for help now openly explaining their approach to tricky maths problems, showing new willingness to talk through their thinking.
In Year 11 physics, a student made excellent progress with magnetic induction—after struggling last term, he's now able to explain core concepts without prompting.
