Aiden has had 2 or 3 sessions and told me he's really enjoying it. And even utilised the 1st session outcomes in an assessment. Many thanks for introducing Zack to our boy.

Inside HerronTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Harry focused on adding and subtracting money as well as finding the correct amount of notes and coins to pay for items, practising real-world skills with hands-on examples.

In Year 8, Chloe worked through area and perimeter of irregular shapes and completed a notes page with formulas in preparation for an upcoming test.

For Year 10, James tackled algebraic techniques including solving simultaneous equations and also spent time revising probability concepts using Venn diagrams.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8, one student often left working out incomplete when adding and subtracting, which led to confusion tracing mistakes laterβ€”"writing down ALL working out" was a repeated focus.

In Year 10, time management during tests proved challenging; questions weren't fully read, resulting in lost marks despite knowing the content.

Another senior student hesitated with complex worded problems in algebra until given guidance but didn't always revisit feedback after errors.

In upper primary (Year 5), messy layout in times tables made it harder to spot calculation patterns.

These moments slowed progress or meant extra time spent correcting avoidable errors instead of advancing.

Recent Achievements

A Herron tutor recently saw a Year 10 student who had previously avoided showing his working start to write out each step for algebra problems, double-checking answers before moving on.

Another high schooler, after initially struggling with time conversions, was able to switch between 24-hour and 12-hour formats with barely any mistakes by the end of their session.

Meanwhile, a younger student in Year 4 who used to guess when stuck now pauses to ask questions whenever she's unsure about addition or subtraction, making her learning much more active and engaged.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library or at your child's school (with permission), like St Damien's Catholic Primary School.
