One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to form a really strong connection with them so that the student is not afraid to ask questions and gives them someone to trust/rely on. Another important factor when tutoring is to make sure that the student truly understands the concept they are stuck on and can easily apply it to…

The most important thing a tutor can do is personalise their teaching style to best suit a student. There are a few different learning styles, and finding the one that suits your student the best can allow you to teach effectively, improve retention as well as build rapport with the student. I can build my students engagement with and appreciation of the subject (many students find school boring or purposeless and I make a point to spark more joy in learning by integrating key notes of relevance into every lesson). I will also assure students that it is okay not to understand something, or to feel unconfident. Struggling with…

Build Confidence: Often, a student's struggle with math is more about a fear of failure than an inability to learn. The first job of a tutor is to create a positive, stress-free environment and show the student that they are capable. This shift in mindset is the foundation for all progress. My strong performance in my engineering Diploma at UTS…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to lay a right foundation for the student to learn. Teaching them not to memorise formulae but to actually understand the theory behind the formula as higher levels of maths rely on prior knowledge that needs to be firmly understood. I believe assisting the student in their academic journey whenther it be academically or mentally is what a tutor should do for a student. This either through motivating them to try their best, focusing on teaching the students their weaknesses, and guiding these students to become good peoples of society. I am a very good at expressing…

I opine that understanding the IQ and how to upgrade it is the key responsibility of a mentor. It is also imperative that a tutor should be patient if a child is not understanding a question and try to explore new ways to make it clear. I am very loving and patient as I know kids take time to understand the key concepts. Non-judgemental is the key…

I think the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to have them gain confidence with themselves in terms of excelling in school. Inside HomebushTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Saner focused on **Business Studies topics including Operations, Marketing influences, and the Finance syllabus points**, as well as tackling exam-style questions; in Maths, recent lessons covered Networking, Critical Path Analysis, and **revising errors from her last assessment**.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Isaac worked through **essay writing techniques using Deltora Quest as a base text** and explored literary devices such as sensory imagery and personification in both reading and creative writing.

For Year 6, lessons with Mia addressed **analysis of advertisements for class assessment** and understanding different types of humour through targeted homework tasks.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student struggled with consistent revision in Business Studies, often neglecting to create summary notes or complete practice papers; as one tutor observed, "more focus on maths would be ideal," but daily practice was repeatedly missed.

In English for Year 9, reliance on leading questions meant written analysis remained shallow and dependent—prompts were needed even for basic context explanations.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student left lesson tasks unfinished due to overwhelm from other assignments, pushing English work to the last minute. This led to rushed drafts and missed opportunities for feedback before assessment deadlines arrived.

Recent Achievements

A Homebush tutor noticed a Year 11 student who previously struggled with critical path analysis now tackling complex business networks independently and even revising content more thoroughly between sessions.

Another high school student, after hesitating to ask for help, is now clearly identifying which maths sections he finds tricky and actively seeks guidance during tutoring.

In Year 5 English, one student who used to give very brief answers is now regularly stating their own opinions about texts and can explain how characters feel in stories.

Last week, that same student wrote out examples of personification without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Strathfield Council Library Service—or at your child's school (with permission), like The McDonald College.
