The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is not only to provide academic guidance but also to be positive and patient with the student, and to acknowledge, reflect and reward upon their successes. I would be a good tutor with Ezymath Tutoring because 1. I am confident in my knowledge and experience in learning and teaching from…

Building trust, being excited when they show you their marks have gone up, being there when they are down, etc. my strengths as a tutor would be i have a very patient attitude and can repeat something as many times as…

I think the most important is to be supportive, from experience the reason that most people struggle with learning is because they give up or don’t think they can. Hence encouragement is key and positive re-enforcement. I also believe that making the student comfortable around you and going through source material in an efficient manner can make…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide them with the tools to be able to confidently work through academic problems on their own. In an English context this can mean teaching a student how to deconstruct what is required by a question, or giving them the skills to analyse a text for thematic and technical…

Be patient with students, understand their concept-grasping power (since it differs from student to student), provide special attention to slow-learners, appreciate students (when they get the hang of things or score good marks) and motivate students (when they make mistakes)! I love making complex concepts simplified (easy-to-understand), am…

A tutor’s role goes beyond just teaching concepts; it’s about building a student’s confidence and fostering a love for learning. The most important things a tutor can do are to be patient, provide clear explanations, and adapt teaching methods to suit the student’s learning style. A factor that I consider to be profound as a tutor is developing an open and positive environment. To add, another significant factor is organisation and communication. I believe a tutor…

I do think patience, good Communication Skills and the Ability to Make Students Visualise. Also the self-discipline. For one, the number of students working with tutors continues to grow. Two, working 1:1 with students is immensely gratifying, both for the tutor and tutee. And three, a few specific yet generalised characteristics become…

A tutor needs a good rapport with students. You have to earn their trust and confidence so they will do the work you want them to do. I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to be patient, and to help the student learn to learn. It is an easier job to tell a student the correct answers than to help them understand how to get there. Taking the time to ensure a student truly understands each lesson and correction can inadvertently be the fastest way…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is listen to them. Anthony, Balwyn North

Inside Ivanhoe EastTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Mitch worked on planning and editing a creative writing short story, focusing on making his writing style more engaging and refining tense and characterisation.

For Year 11 Chemistry, Lucy reviewed types of chemical bonds—covalent, ionic, hydrogen—and practised identifying polarity in molecules.

Meanwhile, Year 12 English student Sam analysed persuasive techniques in VCAA argument analysis exams, comparing tone and arguments across sample articles and practising structured essay plans using CCCTAP methods.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student did not complete a short story over the break, meaning lesson time was spent planning instead of giving feedback on writing.

In VCE English, one student had difficulty drawing out meaning in terms of film techniques for 'On the Waterfront,' and hesitated to share ideas despite good insights.

A Year 8 maths student sometimes jumped to conclusions before reading questions carefully—this led to avoidable errors when interpreting worded problems.

Meanwhile, a primary student left assigned homework unfinished and struggled to recall times tables quickly during practice, making it harder to keep up with new content in sessions.

Recent Achievements

During one Ivanhoe East tutoring session, a Year 10 student shifted from waiting for hints to tackling analysis questions independently. This showed new persistence in breaking down film themes before asking for help.

In VCE English, another student who previously hesitated to use evidence began actively selecting and justifying quotes in essays without tutor prompts.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who once made frequent "silly mistakes" on times tables started working more neatly and self-checking answers out loud, recently scoring full marks on her 3s and 4s.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ivanhoe Library & Cultural Hub—or at your child's school (with permission), like Ivanhoe East Primary School-Wilfred Road Campus.
