As a tutor, the lessons should be prepared as per requirement of every individual. The concepts must be taught to the best of my knowledge. Every doubt of the student should be dealt with clarity to the individual. As a tutor, my ability to connect real life examples with concept to be learnt make it more comprehensible for student. My teaching…

Respect and listen to their current understanding so that they do not get bored by over explanation or lost by under explanation. I am comfortable explaining new concepts in relatable ways. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make the student love a subject because if this happens, the improvement will follow mechanically. A tutor should be able to make the student challenge himself and want to improve for his own sake. The tutor must also make sure that the morale of the student remains high as he should…

In my opinion, improving students' academic performance is important, but is not the ultimate goal. I think the most important thing a tutor can do is to teach students good learning methods and improve their self-study ability, which makes them benefit for life. Firstly, I am a easy going, gentle, kind, and friendly person. It is easy for me to…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is give them confidence. With confidence students can approach problems with an open mind and really try their best. My strength as a tutor is my enthusiasm and attention to detail. I have worked with a variety of people and am motivated and keen. I also am focussed and emphasise the…

Inside JacanaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Mary worked on adding fractions with different denominators and tackled factors and multiples, finishing a tricky homework sheet together.

Year 8 student Bill focused on reducing fractions through targeted practice and discussed division in relation to multiplication, using examples from recent lessons.

For Year 9, Alex revised multiplying and dividing negative numbers, including a spelling test and vocabulary worksheet for literacy reinforcement within the session.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student often left English essays incomplete for homework, particularly after receiving a disappointing mark; as noted, "he seemed distressed and avoided starting the next essay," which led to missed opportunities for feedback and improvement.

In Year 7 Maths, another student consistently forgot to complete assigned revision sheets before a fractions test—this meant class time was spent on catch-up rather than tackling new material.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student preferred to attempt only familiar problems in algebra revision, shying away from more challenging questions and limiting exposure to essential concepts needed for exam readiness.

Recent Achievements

One Jacana tutor recently noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student who used to avoid asking for help—now, he openly voices questions when stuck on essay planning and even suggests what he'd like to review next.

A high schooler tackling long division had previously needed lots of guidance but can now finish complex worded problems independently after practicing with homework.

In a primary session, a Year 4 student who once got frustrated by spelling mistakes now takes them in stride and finishes tests with far fewer corrections, even celebrating when he spelled most tricky words right.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Chloe has had 2 sessions and is starting to find Maths easier already. She has tests coming up and Rosario is focusing on this. We've found Rosario to be patient when explaining the different processes to Chloe. She is also warm and friendly with her and this is good for Chloe who also has anxiety issues.

Thanks Gene it seems to be progressing well .  Vibha is committed and doing a great job . I'm pleased so far.

Alex, he helped Matt enormously. Not only the actual helping him understand how to tackle some questions but I feel Matt gained confidence going into the exams feeling like there were now no areas he had a poor knowledge of . He was particularly happy with his 2nd maths exam but in both cases he said there questions he would not have been able to answer without Alex's help.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Hume Libraries—or at your child's school (with permission), like SEDA College (Victoria) - Basketball Broadmeadows.
