Local Reviews

Angus arrives punctually and is always prepared with his reference notes. My son feels comfortable asking questions and Angus is doing a fabulous job consolidating learning and reinforcing some math principles in Math Methods and Specialist Maths. Angus is very patient. We appreciate his support in tutoring.

Inside Jacobs WellTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Milly worked on multiplying decimals (such as 0.3 Ă— 0.05) and converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages while completing school homework.

Year 8 student Sophia focused on algebra equations in different formats and practiced finding the value of x in larger equations.

Meanwhile, Year 7 student Leo revised data interpretation skills by calculating mean, median, and mode using class examples, and also created stem-and-leaf plots to represent datasets visually.

Recent Challenges

In Year 5, one student struggled to keep worksheets and notes organized—materials were scattered across multiple books and loose papers, making it harder to revise before tests.

A Year 8 student left a revision sheet incomplete, which meant the lesson couldn't target their weakest areas as planned; "we only started today and were unable to get through all the revision sheet."

In Year 11, messy or inconsistent working-out layouts in maths sometimes hid calculation errors or made checking answers difficult.

Meanwhile, a senior student hesitated to try new problem types, leading to slower progress when faced with unfamiliar exam questions.

Recent Achievements

One Jacobs Well tutor noticed a Year 10 student who, after weeks of hesitation with algebra, has started tackling equations independently—she now hands in work with only her own corrections.

Another high schooler has shown a real shift: where he once avoided complex statistics questions, he's now confidently analysing graphs and can explain trends without prompting.

Meanwhile, a younger student who used to guess answers in word problems now takes time to highlight keywords and correct mistakes on her own before moving forward. Last session, she completed all three multiplication tasks without any reminders.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We love Jennifer and she is the perfect match for Kittu. Already she has noticeably improved her confidence.

Freya and Lidia get on really well, Lidia is gentle, firm and positive all at the same time which works well for Freya. Freya's confidence is growing already and she did better in her last weekly maths test than she usually does which was a boost for her confidence.

Ranul has been fantastic. Ava seems to have really taken a liking to him which helps!
