Listen to them. Education is a big system where getting your voice heard feels impossible, a tutor is the best thing the students have if they need to talk about it - even if that's just you agreeing that the resources they were given weren't enough and that it's understandable that they're stuck. I have a good record of teaching people flagged as…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to be a role model for students by teaching and encouraging them in all aspects of life. I believe that a good tutor would empower and inspire the students to strive towards their dreams and goals and support them in the process. In my opinion, there are at least two things that a tutor can give some help for a student: 1.it is necessary for a tutor to teach students correctly, answer student's questions and response to student's enquires clearly and friendly. 2.It is important for a tutor to help students to figure out what is the most effective way of learning for…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to not only help them understand and get better at the content but also to help them gain confidence in their learning. Most students get tutoring because they are not understanding the content taught to them by their teachers at school so it is the tutor's job to teach in a way that makes…

A tutor provides a supportive environment for their students. This is most true for the students who struggle the most, who may need more help than their peers who don't find the topic as difficult. Firstly, a tutor needs to be a strong communicator; it doesnt't matter how smart you are, if you cannot explain the concepts to your students effectively, they won't be able to learn from you. Secondly, a good tutor is someone who can offer guidence through problems and assigments, without simply giving them the answer or doing it for them.…

The most important thing that a tutor can provide for a student is support and motivation. When a student is struggling, they have low self-efficacy and motivation to engage with the subject. Inside JindaleeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Lily focused on converting between millimetres, centimetres, and metres and practised measurement problems involving unit changes.

For Year 10, James worked through sketching quadratic functions using turning points and factored form, along with solving quadratics by factorisation and the quadratic formula.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Olivia tackled derivatives of polynomial and non-polynomial functions as part of her PSMT assignment, also discussing how to structure each sub-heading for clear assignment presentation.

Recent Challenges

Forgetting to bring the school homework book home repeatedly in Year 7 meant missing vital practice and made it hard to pinpoint specific struggles.

A Year 10 student had not completed assigned homework and often could not recall classwork details. "Writing any questions in a separate book and bringing them home should help solidify understanding," noted one tutor.

For Year 12, missing regular revision led to gaps in applying formulas during functions tasks; over-reliance on the graphics calculator limited confidence with graph plotting by hand. This left key skills unpracticed when needed most.

Recent Achievements

One Jindalee tutor saw a big shift in a Year 11 student who previously hesitated to ask questions—now, he's speaking up whenever unsure and requests to go over tricky concepts again.

In another session, a Year 10 student took real ownership of her chemistry work: after the first question was explained, she completed the next two independently with only light guidance and then tackled later problems entirely on her own.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who often guessed answers now labels all her maths work neatly and double-checks for errors before moving on.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mount Ommaney Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Jindalee State School.
