I believe one of the most important things a tutor can do is remove the fear around a subject. For many students, especially in maths and science, the volume of information can be overwhelming. Even when they understand a concept, they may struggle to apply it under exam conditions due to panic or poor time management. My goal is to help students…

A tutor's most important role is to create an environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes and asking questions. I learned this from my own tutor, who was friendly and patient, letting me make mistakes before gently guiding me to the right answers. One of my strengths as a tutor is open communication with families, working together…

The significant among all will be to understand fully the barrier that inhibits them from achieving their potential in addition to simplifying the cumbersome problems a student comes across. Also each student has a unique learning style which must be attained through pathways that meets their requirement. I am myself raised by a teacher so its my…

I would say that the most important things I can do as a tutor are to be an inspiration for my student as someone who genuinely enjoys the subject, and prove that it is really possible to do well in a topic. Being such a role model and delivering the content in an interesting way are pivotal to being a great tutor and mentor. A patient and…

- A tutor needs to be able to guide the students into considering the application of what they are learning and being able to provide them with the support that they need. A tutor can also provide students with emotional support as sometimes it is difficult for students to deal with the balance between life and studying. - Strong listening -…

It is important to help students to organize studies by preparing a timetable. Tutors should create awareness in students that why they are learning particular subject and importance of that subject so that they can concentrate better. I feel I can make students feel very comfortable with the subjects and encourage them to go beyond. I use the…

Simply reaching out. Most students find it intimidating to ask for help. Reaching out and letting them know they can communicate whether it is regarding their studies or not. Being encouraging is the most important thing a tutor can do for a student. A student who is made to feel comfortable and supported - in a way that is often impossible in a school setting with 30+ children - may feel motivated and empowered to take control of their education. Encouraging a student can ameliorate the stressful feelings associated…

Being understanding, confident and respectful are key aspects in a tutor- student relationship. These three qualities ensure the reliability and integrity of the tutor. Inside Junction VillageTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student James practised structuring TEEL paragraphs for English assignments and reviewed expectations for Year 7 content.

In Year 10, Emily focused on solving linear equations from her recent school test and worked on drawing linear graphs, including finding x- and y-intercepts using graphing methods.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student revised statistics topics such as interpreting box plots and tackled probability questions from the textbook to prepare for upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student struggled to keep written calculations organized in algebra, with a tutor noting, "her maths layout makes it hard to spot where she went wrong." This disorganization slowed down error correction during lessons.

In Year 3 grammar, another student often left homework incomplete, so progress on conjunctions and prepositions stalled between sessions.

A VCE student preparing for SACs was reluctant to create a bound reference, making revision less effective.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 found it difficult to retain new maths content because practice questions were left unfinished each week—leading to repeated confusion over previously covered material.

Recent Achievements

One Junction Village tutor noticed Ishan could now write a full TEEL paragraph from just a prompt and independently pick out visual images based on written descriptions—something he struggled with before.

In another session, Riley, also in high school, was able to recall key points from previous lessons and confidently apply BODMAS rules without hesitation, showing more initiative during problem-solving than last term.

Meanwhile, an upper primary student who used to quietly guess when unsure has started openly asking for help whenever she's confused, most recently raising her hand after stumbling over multiplication tables.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Cranbourne Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Lighthouse Christian College Cranbourne.
