It’s essential that a tutor can understand and empathise with their student to be able to find a method that most productively assists their student without overwhelming them. This creates an environment where the student feels comfortable asking for help, and confident to learn. I’ve graduated high school in 2022, so I can closely relate to…

In my opinion, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them feel confident in their knowledge and understanding of a topic. Based on my personal experiences, a lack of confidence leads to doubt in one’s own capabilities, and hence, diminishes one’s potential. As such, I strongly believe that a tutor must enable their…

I have had many experiences with teachers and tutors during my HSC years and most of them would end up explaining the questions. This was an issue for me as I might end up understanding that questions but I wouldn't be able to understand other questions as I didn't understand the concept. Therefore, the most important thing a tutor can do is help…

A tutor must able to engage a student in his teachings, such that the student does not feel that attending a weekly tutoring as a burden, but more of an enjoyable way of learning. A tutor must also be able to understand the person he is teaching, and his/her way of interpretation - this is a vital attribute that must be present in a tutor as not…

I believe that since every student is different in the way they think and learn, it is important for a tutor to establish a connection and relationship with their students so the tutor can better understand the students habits. Inside Kellyville RidgeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Lucas completed a start-of-year assessment and then worked on improving grammar and spelling in his writing, including strategies for there/their/they're and reading aloud to catch errors.

Year 8 student Sienna focused on expanding brackets with negative numbers and simplifying complex algebraic expressions, practising with up to three expansions per problem.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Olivia tackled differentiation concepts, specifically tangents and normals, using diagrams to support her understanding of the geometric applications.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11, she needed a refresher on algebraic principles and hesitated with questions that switched the order of numbers and variables, making her less confident in problem-solving.

During a senior maths session, over-reliance on visual methods instead of formulaic approaches was noted when finding midpoints and gradients; this led to gaps in understanding more advanced material.

A tutor observed in Year 6 English that spelling practice was needed for less common words like "permission" and "technology."

In Year 8, confusion between similar mathematical terms during exam review meant corrections were not always applied consistently.

Recent Achievements

In Kellyville Ridge, a Year 11 student who used to hesitate with algebraic fractions now independently tackles complex problems, correctly identifying which techniques to use without prompting.

In Year 9 maths, one student who previously struggled to see errors in her work is now pinpointing her own mistakes on tests and explaining where she went wrong before asking for help.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who began unsure about frequency tables recently completed them accurately and quickly during the session, even finishing all questions without needing reminders.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Maryanne was fantastic, the confidence I saw in my daughter this morning was amazing and that was only with one session. Thank you for sending Maryanne our way.

Matt was great with Gemma on Monday evening. We have booked Matt again for next Monday. Thankyou for all of your help.

I would like to thank you for a great opportunity working with Ezymath. It is a well organized company that provides many great resources such as the CEP modules and textbooks online. The administration is very helpful and cheerful. I have learnt plenty being a tutor both personally and professionally. I have also had the joy of meeting new and exciting students that I was lucky to teach.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Vinegar Hill Memorial Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St John XXIII Catholic College (Primary).
