I think the most important thing a tutor can do for their students is to develop relationships so that the student is entirely comfortable with being honest with the tutor about questions and concerns with academics, as well as beyond what is required by the curriculum. A tutor must be empathetic and patient, and this allows them to create a…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to motivate them to learn and harness their curiosity. I believe when you take away the pressure to perform and just focus on learning for learning's sake, it produces great results. I am a student of psychology and have a keen interest in developmental psychology. I can recognize different…

Inviting kids to have a safe environment is very important as kids will be comfortable in making mistakes which often allow them to learn the content. I think it is very important to teach a student or allow a student to learn their teaching style as it often stays with them throughout their life improving their ability to comprehend a lot.…

To work patiently beside the student and understand that all students work at their own pace. Also to not enforce unhealthy expectation on the students, as the pressure of school is enough and piling more expectation can lead to burnout. I am very patient and friendly, open to all types of communication. I also consistently think outside the box…

Be reliable, understanding and encouraging. In the setting of learning, it is important for a student to know that their tutor is there for them and that they can count on them to help them when they need it. The most important part of a tutor's job is to encourage the student and to also recognise any signs in the student that they may not understand what is being taught to them. Tutors can do so much for students. To choose a few, a tutor should be honest and always try their best to educate and assist the student to their best capacity. Moreover, allowing the student to be okay with failing and making mistakes as part of the journey without feeling ashamed is critical to building their self-confidence and understanding…

Inside Kemps CreekTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 Enrique focused on probability and explored geometry concepts, including classifying shapes.

For Year 9 Vangie, lessons included rearranging algebraic equations to make a given variable the subject and converting between measurement units.

In Year 10, Amaan practised solving simultaneous equations by both substitution and elimination methods, and worked through coordinate geometry problems using past test questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10, a student struggled to show working consistently in algebra questions; as the tutor observed, "he's good at doing these questions in his head and on a calculator, but working out is where he will get the marks he deserves." This meant correct answers were sometimes given without evidence for partial credit.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student often needed to refer back to examples rather than recall methods independently when tackling new variations of familiar problems.

In senior maths, another student hesitated to draw diagrams for worded problems, slowing progress and making errors more likely during complex geometry tasks.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Kemps Creek noticed some real shifts this term. One Year 11 student, who previously hesitated with differentiation, recently tackled composite functions and applied the product rule to differentiate more complex expressions without needing reminders.

In a Year 10 session, a student who used to rush through multiple choice questions began slowing down to identify and fix "silly mistakes," showing new attention to detail that wasn't there before.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner surprised their tutor by recalling how to approach a money problem they hadn't practised in weeks and completed it independently from start to finish.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Matt was great with Gemma on Monday evening. We have booked Matt again for next Monday. Thankyou for all of your help.

I would like to thank you for a great opportunity working with Ezymath. It is a well organized company that provides many great resources such as the CEP modules and textbooks online. The administration is very helpful and cheerful. I have learnt plenty being a tutor both personally and professionally. I have also had the joy of meeting new and exciting students that I was lucky to teach.

I have found the Ezymath process to be highly professional and effectively adaptive in addressing the many challenges that can be associated with home tutoring programs. More specifically, (a) The fact that tutors come to the student's home environment (b) flexibility in arranging time-frames (c) open lines of communication for input and feedback in relation to student's progress and adaptability to the home tutoring process. I've also found the transparency associated with invoicing and the progress reports to be impressive. I'm unable however to comment on the reality Elijah's progress with his math challenges. Instead, I rely on Ezymath reports, as well as input from Elijah's parents and school teachers. Whilst still early days yet, evidently, there does appear to be some evidence suggesting that Elijah is gaining confidence and competence in maths. I believe Elijah's parents are planning to continue having tutoring session during the Summer break.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Green Valley Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kemps Creek Public School.
