I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to build a student’s confidence and independence. Of course, explaining the content clearly is essential, but more than that, it’s about helping students feel capable and supported. I try to show them that it’s okay to not understand something the first time, and that learning is a…

I think that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is allow them to realise their own potential and skills, and instil them with the confidence to take on their assessments and exams without self doubt. As a tutor, I believe my strengths are my ability to infer the most suitable ways of explanation and communication for each…

I would say that the tutor developing a relationship of trust with the student is one of the most important things. Whilst it\'s all good and well for the tutor to deliver the class well, if the student does not trust the tutor to actually better them in their studies, no progress will be made. I think that learning goes hand in hand with…

He/She can secure the future of kid. Kids are like tender flowers so it is important to handle them with care. A tutor not only can help in passing the knowlegde but also can help him/her understand the life experience which he/she has seen till now. Students generally ask why we are reading particular topic then in that case we need to make sure…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence, create a safe space to ask questions, and make learning feel approachable. It’s not just about teaching the steps to solve a problem, but helping the student truly understand the concept behind it. A good tutor should also be patient, adaptable, and…

The most important thing a tutor can do is help their student feel confident and capable. It’s all about creating a comfortable space where they can ask questions, tailoring the approach to fit their needs, and giving them the tools to solve problems on their own. The most important things a tutor can do for a student, in my opinion, is to be able to listen, provide feedback that the student is able to take on hand and to create an efficient learning environment. To listen to a student's goals, what they are having difficulty with and how to improve upon these difficulties - are very crucial in the role…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is help a student build self-confidence. From my own experience, I know that grasping a concept feels much harder when it seems 'impossible.' Confidence changes that perspective, making challenges feel doable and providing the energy needed to tackle difficult problems. I foster this through…

Tutors have the important role of helping build a student's confidence and guide them to becoming more efficient learners. A tutor should also create a safe, non-judgemental learning space for students to grow academically. The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to build confidence and self-esteem. Often, people feel discouraged or left out when unable to keep up with their class. To me, the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to be firm but patient, and to allow them to solve problems/formulate ideas themselves, not just be fed information to rote-learn. I believe this style of educating enables students to develop their own confidence as they actually understand what they’re doing, not just taking a…

For me, the most important thing a tutor can do is help the student feel more confident — not just with the subject, but in themselves. I think we sometimes forget how big of a difference it makes when someone believes they can actually do it. I really try to celebrate the small wins — whether they’ve just understood a tough concept or even…

Inside KensingtonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Olivia worked on mean, median and mode calculations as well as interpreting graphs.

In Year 10, Ethan practised non-right angled trigonometry using the sine rule and cosine rule.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Liam focused on basic trigonometry and explored normal distribution, including understanding its key properties and uses.

Recent Challenges

A Year 7 student often worked out maths in their head instead of writing steps, which made it harder to spot where misunderstandings with algebra or negative signs occurred—he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors.

In Year 11 Physics, a student froze when unsure how to start a question and needed guidance breaking down what was being asked; missing definitions slowed progress.

A senior Chemistry student relied heavily on checking notes for formulas rather than recalling them independently, leading to lost time during problem-solving.

Nerves in impromptu speeches (Year 10 English) led to rushed delivery and forgotten structure.

Recent Achievements

One Kensington tutor noted a high school student who previously hesitated to speak up now talks through his problem-solving process out loud and actively asks questions when stuck, rather than staying quiet.

Another secondary student showed new independence by checking over each maths problem and explaining their reasoning step-by-step—something he'd avoided before.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner, after struggling with fractions last term, has started converting mixed numbers independently and can now solve most ratio problems solo.

Last week, one completed all ten practice questions without needing any hints from the tutor.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Randwick Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Coogee Boys' Preparatory School.
