Students spend a major part of a day in school. Many children are unable to get the most of it due to time-constraints and lack of individual attention in a class. However, there are a few students who maintain attention and focus in a classroom environment. Reason is they are more prepared than the rest. If a child follows what is happening in…

To help students understand the basic concepts in whatever they have to study and help them develop a deeper, more relatable understanding. It is also important for me as a tutor to serve as a good role model for students. I try to make concepts easier for students to understand. Particularly, i strive for understanding rather than memorization…

A tutor can bring in enjoyment into students even when they study. Most of the students don't enjoy study time the main reason being they don't understand certain concepts and find it hard. But a tutor can explain that to students in a way they understand bring in interest thereby the enjoyment factor into it. I have great patience, good problem…

I believe the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student, is to be patient and as encouraging to a student as possible. Being able to explain in simple ways the method of calculations, good communication skills, and being able to determine the root of the…

Physics Tutor Hillarys, WA
In my eyes, one of the most important aspects of a tutor would be the ability to see things through the student's perspective. Being able to pinpoint exactly what the student needs help with can make the entire learning experience more efficient and a lot more rewarding overall. It also makes the student feel a lot more comfortable, as a learning…

Inside KinrossTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Alex focused on structuring short answer responses and annotating visual text prompts using a magazine cover as stimulus.

Year 11 student Sam worked through essay writing techniques, including exploring symbolism and extended metaphors for character development, as well as understanding the concept of Bildungsroman.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Olivia prepared for an English assessment by planning practice essays on Jasper Jones, selecting relevant quotes, and discussing possible essay questions to strengthen her analytical writing.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student arrived unprepared for sessions and assessments, limiting their ability to engage deeply with texts and plan sophisticated responses. As one tutor observed, "coming to the session prepared would have made the exam preparation much more effective."

In Year 9 English, a lack of independent idea generation meant responses stayed formulaic rather than insightful, leaving the student frustrated after an in-class essay result.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student often forgot key maths concepts between lessons due to limited revision at home; this led to moments where she couldn't recall how to convert improper fractions without extra prompts during practice.

Recent Achievements

A Kinross tutor recently noticed a Year 11 student who, after initially struggling with extended metaphors in her English text, was able to write a thoughtful paragraph independently by the end of the session.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 maths student has begun catching her own mistakes during lessons—she now explains her reasoning aloud without prompting, something she used to avoid when unsure.

In primary school, one student has developed the habit of double-checking his work for errors before handing it in, whereas he previously submitted answers right away without reviewing them.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Pat has really appreciated and enjoyed the help Josh has given him with his Maths. Tutoring with Josh during the holidays will make an excellent start to year 11!

Thank you for touching base. I am really impressed with William's efforts to date. He has very quickly worked out Layla's weaknesses and the areas that need attention. I also believe that his strategy of working slightly ahead of schedule and thus getting her 'in front' in some areas will help with her confidence in class. Layla is also receiving additional Maths support in school and combined with William's efforts, I am confident that we should see her Maths results improve.

Very happy with John.  Would like Jackson to have more lessons with him but can't get Jackson to agree to it as yet!  Working on him.  May ask John to help out with science and possibly English as well in the future if he has time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Clarkson Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kinross Primary School.
