I consider patience to be the most important virtue in a tutor, setting small checkpoints between certain topics is a good strategy. A tutor should always pause and ask if the student has any questions or doubts about the concept. A tutor should make the student feel comfortable around them and they should not hesitate to ask any questions - no…

A tutor needs to understand a student's learning style. If a student is a visual learner, explaining concepts verbally doesn't help. The most important thing a tutor can do is individualize sessions to the students rather than trying a one size fits all approach. As a tutor, I like to focus on the student, and their needs, not on the material.…

I think that one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to give them confidence in their own abilities, as this empowers them to develop their own skills on their own and, Some of my strengths as a tutor is my patience, I am quite willing to explain a concept to a student as many times as necessary and can adapt to a specific…

Personal relationships are foundational to student success -- the more connected a student feels to his or her tutor, the more the tutor creates trust and respect, essential ingredients for students to learn well. I am an expert in Math and Programming and their academic content -- I know the subject's concepts, ideas and problems inside out. I…

The most crucial aspect of a tutor's role for a student is to understand them and be able to establish a friendly connection. The student should feel no embarrassment in asking questions when they don't understand, and the tutor should create an environment where the student feels comfortable doing so. In fact, a tutor should be able to gauge from…

Among the most important things a tutor can do for a student is that a tutor must be able to understand a student's learning style so that the student would be able to learn the material in a way that is analogous to their mode of synthesising knowledge. A tutor must do this all the while being open and kind and most especially warm towards the…

I believe that the tutor shouldn't be the one always in control and leading the session. Especially in early sessions, I believe the tutor should encourage the student to ask many questions of them, to grasp what they know and how they interpret different topics. Tutoring almost becomes useless if the tutor is the one constantly talking because…

The most important thing for a tutor to do to a student is to be able to connect with them on a level that allows them to understand the content. The most important thing a tutor can do is to ensure that the child fully understands the lesson, and finds purpose in it. If it's a correct match of a student and a teacher, then definitely a tutor can change the overall personality of his student and in turn learn from him as well. I think there are a lot of qualities that go into being a good tutor. Some of the most essential ingredients are to be compassionate and build rapport . A good tutor should take the time to connect meaningfully with the student and their families. They will be caring and compassionate, but also professional. Having a good rapport with the student…

I believe tutors have the potential to really change a students attitude and opinion of school, a great tutor will not only teach a subject but teach a student to enjoy the subject through sharing with the student the things that make the subject enjoyable to them, and this has the potential to totally change a students academic life. I have been…

Facilitate the comprehension of the concepts studied, a tutor is not there to do the homework by himself but rather to show a better way to do it and to provide help in understanding the concepts needed to carry out a homework or while studying for an exam. Very closely tied to this is the building of the student, edifying the student if you…

Relatability is so important. We see a huge disconnect between teachers/tutors and students. I believe that an equal playing field with mutual respect creates a unique learning environment and nurtures encouragement. The student can see how the teacher got to where they are, and can realise that they, too, can learn these concepts just as those…

Inside KirribilliTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Xander focused on trigonometric ratios, using targeted practice to strengthen understanding for upcoming assessments, and also worked through a recent maths exam to address specific errors.

In Year 7, Soraya practiced identifying properties of quadrilaterals and triangles—including congruency tests—while briefly revisiting composite area questions as set by her school teacher.

Meanwhile, Year 5 student Maya improved her ability to tell time on an analog clock (including "quarter to" and "half past") and completed multiplication exercises for fluency.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 trigonometry, one student repeatedly needed to consult notes for basic ratios, slowing progress during problem sets—she kept flipping back instead of recalling sine/cosine values.

In a senior class, another student hesitated with exam-style algebraic questions and often deferred to decimals when unsure, revealing a reluctance to attempt more challenging symbolic work.

A Year 7 learner struggled with messy layout on multi-step geometry tasks; as noted, "we're working on slowing down her working out so we can spot errors together." This led to confusion in converting between units mid-calculation and left both student and tutor searching for the misstep rather than building confidence.

Recent Achievements

In a Kirribilli tutoring session, Charlie, a high school student, completed a past exam paper without needing to consult her notes for most questions—a big step from earlier sessions where she'd pause or double-check formulas.

Another tutor noted Soraya, also in high school, now explains her thought process out loud and willingly shares how she tackles geometry problems; previously, she hesitated to speak up unless prompted.

Meanwhile, Xander in Year 3 moved from struggling with number sentences last week to confidently solving each one correctly this time around—finishing the worksheet on his own without help.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I was very happy with James' tutoring. Warren was a great tutor for James and as I mentioned on the phone,I wish we had found him sooner. In the short time that James did have his tutoring, I did notice he has become more confident and independent with his maths. Although he is still not a straight A student, he did show some improvement.

Thank you for the follow up.  Belinda is fantastic.  Ben really likes her.  I know it has only been 3 weeks but Ben is already feeling more confident with his maths.  His exams start next week so Belinda is revising with him.  I'm very happy, thank you.

I went to your website, and wasn't able to see easily where to add a reference so I thought I'd type something out below and you can add it into the website on my behalf. I'd like to thank Ezy Math Tutoring and especially Mihika (tutor) for assisting with Cameron's Year-12 VCE Mathematics Methods subject this year. We won't know what Cameron's results will be for a little while but despite this I can safely say the experience and tutoring has been wonderful and warmly received by both Cameron and his parents alike.  During the course of this year and at all times the approach from both Ezy-Maths and Mihika was simply first class.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Customs House Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Loreto Kirribilli.
