Apart from general academic support, I think it's very important for tutors to identify students' learning gaps, and provide constructive feedbacks. My strength as a tutor would be my grade and experience. I was a volunteer maths/science tutor in high school for about 3 years, as well as currently mentoring programming workshops for high school…

Tutors have the important role of helping build a student's confidence and guide them to becoming more efficient learners. A tutor should also create a safe, non-judgemental learning space for students to grow academically. From experience helping peers and my younger brother with school, I found that a strength I have is simplifying concepts to…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to build confidence and self-esteem. Often, people feel discouraged or left out when unable to keep up with their class. They become withdrawn and tend not to believe in their capabilities. By teaching a student challenging topics, I am simultaneously quelling all notions of…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to have the ability to cater to their needs and build self esteem, especially when one method of learning isn’t working. This not only allows for the student to understand concepts in other ways but also ensures and improves self esteem as often, students may fall behind from a…

All student's have the ability to do as well as the can in school when educator's listen to them and give them the best tools to motivate them to learn. I am in my third year of my…

Be there to support them, and work through the areas that they aren't as confident in to build confidence. To always be humble. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is be attentive, approachable, and patient. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to promote confidence in a student. After a tutoring session, the goal should not be for a student to be able to complete their homework. Instead, the student should gain an understanding of the topic such that they can complete future coursework without the help of a tutor. If that…

I believe following up with students is the best way to create accountability and instil a routine in them. Also, tutors who put in effort after hours, such as staying back to help or creating personalised tasks to target their weak areas, are critical for students to excel in their studies. As a previously tutored student, I can guarantee that…

Think to pass the belief that the student can achieve the goal. It is just the matter of working hard and maybe trying different approach. And also not comparing yourself to other students, because everyone is unique. Be good learner first and then we can be a good tutor. We should find out what students want, how can they learn easily and how can they understand the solutions. Inside KyeemaghTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 Sasha focused on algebra questions and consolidating her understanding of positive and negative integers through targeted practice.

Year 9 sessions with Liam addressed trigonometric ratios, including basic applications of sine, cosine, and tangent, as well as graphing these functions.

For Year 11 student Emily, recent lessons explored quadratic equations—covering both factorising techniques and use of the quadratic formula—plus applied skills to real-world problem scenarios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Mathematics, a student did not attend the scheduled online lesson despite reminders; as noted, "sent her texts and emails before the class, which she has not replied." This gap disrupts progress on planned tutorials.

Meanwhile, in Year 9 Algebra, incomplete homework was an issue: "must take his homework seriously, otherwise he will suffer the consequences of poor results."

A Year 8 student erased working out repeatedly rather than showing full steps—"erases work with an eraser instead of keeping working out"—making it harder to pinpoint misunderstandings during problem-solving.

Missed feedback and hidden errors slow improvement in both cases.

Recent Achievements

One Kyeemagh tutoring session saw a Year 10 student independently catch a calculation error before the tutor did, showing real engagement rather than just following along—he used to be more passive with problem-solving.

In another high school example, a student who had previously skipped writing down her maths working now consistently records every step and talks through her reasoning out loud.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner tackled mixed numerals for the first time and was eager to attempt challenging questions on her own, asking for extra practice worksheets without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Brighton-Le-Sands Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kyeemagh Public School.
