A common misconception within tutoring is the difference between teaching and doing for. The most important thing a maths tutor can do is broaden and enhance the knowledge of the students in a way they understand. Within reason, an improvement in ability is far more important than an improvement in grades. I excel at building a bond between my…

Of course, a maths tutor is there for the student academically. However, the most important thing a tutor can provide is confidence in the students. Students who may not be achieving high marks might believe it reflects their self-worth. My job is to show them that it doesn't. As I'm currently a swim teacher, I have built the skills of patience,…

The most important thing a maths tutor can do for a student is to show the student the respect that they deserve regardless of their academic capacity. I think that this is key in maintaining a good relationship as a student will not learn if they feel they aren’t being listened to. I believe that I am a very friendly and polite person. I am…

The best kind of confidence builder is being able to understand something on your own so the most important thing a maths tutor can do for a student is to get the student to a point where they don't need a tutor anymore. I'm a very patient person which I think is useful when trying to explain something tricky. I also get along great with students…

Making sure that the student is understanding what the tutor is explaining and keeping the student motivated, as there isn't much use of a student being tutored if they cannot understand or if they are not motivated. I am able to explain things in a way that are easy to understand, I help the student stay out of frustration and help them approach…

Tutors need to listen properly. Students always give signs as to how they learn best, and paying attention to those signs is paramount. Also, clear communication at their pace goes a long way. Tailoring tuition to every individual student is the best possible way we can provide value, and deliver results! I'm good at offering both visual…

The most important is to break the ice and make the student as comfortable as possible. It is important to communicate to the student that just because they do not understnd sometihing now, does not mean that they cannot improve and eventually understand. Another important factor is to consider the personality and learning preferance of the…

The most crucial role of a maths tutor is to assist students in acquiring the ability to develop their own problem-solving skills. This empowers them to independently navigate through challenges without the ongoing need for external guidance, as they develop the necessary skills to tackle problems on their own. My strengths lie in my capacity to…

I believe the most important things a maths tutor can do for a student are to make learning clear, manageable, and efficient, while ensuring the student truly understands the concepts rather than just memorising steps. I have a deep understanding of concepts, not just formulas or procedures. I understand the reasoning behind each step, its…

Sen is an awesome maths tutor. He has been tutoring my son for over a year, first in year 11 (2022) and now in year 12 (2023). My son's math results are excellent and he is gaining more and more confidence with Sen's help.. Sen is always on time for tutoring sessions, and he has a calm way of explaining mathematical concepts in a logical way. He is professional, organised and friendly with excellent communication skills. Highly recommend him as a maths tutor.

Inside Lamb IslandTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Taylor focused on spelling correction and reading aloud to boost comprehension, also practicing with prefixes and suffixes.

For Year 10, Jarred tackled questions involving factorising algebraic expressions as well as trigonometry and bearings using targeted practice sets.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Nisha concentrated on annuities and loan repayments through step-by-step financial mathematics exercises, finishing off by reviewing simple and compound interest calculations.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student hesitated to ask questions in class, making it hard to clarify confusing annuities problems; as one tutor noted, "she mentioned difficulty asking questions in class."

In Year 10 maths, skipping written steps when rearranging equations led to sign errors that slowed progress.

A Year 8 student only practiced familiar types of Pythagoras and area problems, avoiding more challenging worded tasks and missing out on deeper understanding.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner still relied heavily on counting with fingers for addition instead of building number fluency—extra time went into basics rather than tackling new content.

Recent Achievements

A Lamb Island tutor noticed Taylor, a high school student, becoming more independent with each maths question—where she once waited for prompts, she now tackles problems solo and only checks in if stuck.

In another session, Jakob, also in high school, made the switch from needing step-by-step guidance on annuities to independently solving practice questions by lesson's end.

Meanwhile, Claira (Year 2) used to rely heavily on finger counting but has begun completing double- and single-digit addition sums faster and with much less hesitation than before.

Last week, she worked through a full set of multiplication problems without stopping to ask for help.

My daughter and I are both very happy with Thibault. She has only had one session with him but said he was good at explaining and he was able to answer her questions. He was also encouraging, punctual and very polite. We are very happy to continue with him.

I am more than happy with Daniella. She is a lovely girl and Emma is getting a lot out of her lessons.

Local Spots for Tutoring
