In my opinion, an economics tutor can act as the bridge between the student and the learning outcome. I feel the job of a tutor is to instill confidence in the child and inculcate a joy of learning the subject. My job as a tutor is to administer lessons to students in such a way to adapt to his capabilities and to meld the subject matter with his…

Someone once told me a great teacher is not a messiah but a guide. As an economics tutor, I do not gift my mentees the treasure of knowledge but rather act as a guide toward achieving them. I believe the most important thing that a tutor can do for their students in the limited time that they have is to show them how to study on their own and…

Tutors must be flexible in their assistance to students through recognising individual learning preferences. Hence, they must cater to one's level of academic proficiency, their learning weaknesses and holes in education to provide a tangible improvement in grades. I have recent experience undertaking high school Extension 1 and 2 Mathematics,…

As a passionate tutor, the responsibility to create confidence and trust is vital in learning. Confidence allows students to tackle difficult and complex problems, serving as a 'stepping stone' to build a mathematical foundation. It can also act as an incentive for students to engage in lessons comprised of challenges. Furthermore, building trust…

Tutors must be able to demonstrate openness towards the needs of each student and help to better understand a students situation. I feel that the ability to carefully understand the certain needs and goals of each student and provide particular guidance and assistance a long the way to achieving these goals is crucial in tutoring, rather than…

The most important thing I can do for my students is to help them become self-motivated learners. Firstly,…

As an economics tutor, our goal is not only for our students to pass the subject, we also want our students to reach their full potential. We can do so by giving our students our support, and giving them time to digest what they have learnt from the lesson. We can let them know that it is normal to struggle at first especially if it is a new topic…

What I consider to be the most important things an economics tutor can do for a student is to build a relationship with them. Listening to a student, assessing what areas they struggle with most, and celebrating the accomplishments they have made in their studies (whether big or small), is key in strengthening the student's trust in the tutor. In…

A tutor is more than a teacher. A teachers job is to give a student a base level of understanding whereas an economics tutor can build on that and go further. This allows students to revisit sections that the teacher brushed over or to build on sections they seemingly understand to ensure they can answer a greater range of question types. Along…

The best thing an economics tutor can do for a student is to help them grow an understanding of analysis in their mind on how to approach and answer the relevant question. Students have to learn the material themselves, however a guidance is required to what is relevant material to read and where is the focus on the study. I feel that I can…

A tutor can transform a student's life by helping them become more confident in their academic career, which inevitably improves general confidence. Further, an economics tutor provides mentoring and coaching as experts in their field which a student can carry with them beyond school, ensuring they are set up for success in their chosen field. I…

I think the most important thing as a tutor you need to be honest, be flexible, be patient, be a good listener, teach the student how to learn. I believe tutors fill a different role than teachers and parents, and that puts them in a unique position to support students. Personal relationships are foundational to student success -- the more…

I think the most crucial part of any tutoring experience is to make sure that the student knows that the tutor is there for them and will not get frustrated if mess something up. If the tutor comes off as condescending or annoyed at a lack of progress, it can allow the student to put added pressure on him/herself or create an aversion to learning…

Inside Lane CoveTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Jessica focused on mastering times tables and tackling area and perimeter problems using worded scenarios.

For Year 9, Ethan practised solving equations involving x² as well as applying the Pythagoras theorem to both direct distance and three-dimensional contexts, often using diagrams to visualise solutions.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Zoe explored applications of trigonometric functions—solving for unknown sides with sine, cosine, and tangent—and worked through angle of elevation and depression questions in real-world settings.

Recent Challenges

In Year 7 algebra, one student often missed negative signs when rearranging equations—"be more careful with the positive and negative signs," as a tutor observed—which led to incorrect solutions even after correct initial steps.

A Year 9 student showed hesitation expressing probability answers as decimals or fractions, sometimes switching formats mid-question, which muddled final answers.

In senior trigonometry, confusion persisted between cosine and tangent when identifying sides of triangles, resulting in misapplied formulas and lost marks.

Meanwhile, a primary learner avoided showing long division working, likely from lack of confidence with times tables; this meant partial answers but no path for error-checking or feedback.

Recent Achievements

One Lane Cove tutor noticed a Year 8 student who previously hesitated with word problems now breaking down multi-step questions independently and spotting which details are relevant.

In Year 10, a student who used to confuse the gradient and y-intercept in linear equations can now correctly identify each part and graph the line without prompting.

Another recent session with a primary schooler showed real change: after weeks of struggling, she remembers far more of her times tables and tackled two-digit multiplication with much less reliance on written prompts, even choosing to try a harder problem herself.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Tutoring for EzyMath has been a rewarding and satisfying experience. It enabled me to develop my leadership and communication skills which are important ... The resources that EzyMath provided me with were excellent and made it easy when it came to selecting questions to work through. I have no hesitations in recommending EzyMath Tutoring to students who need some personalised help.

This is to let you know that I was happy with what Laura has learnt from the tutoring she received with Ezy Math.  Laura said she felt she had a better understanding of Math from those few lessons that she had.  The tutor was very thorough and we were grateful for his patience with Laura.

We found engaging Ezy Math Tutoring a very good experience.  Our young tutor was extremely helpful in keeping our daughter calm and focussed while she completed year 12.   It was great having the continuity of someone outside the family to act as a guide in the preparation of not only Maths and Chemistry,  but helpful hints for English as well.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lane Cove Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Lane Cove Public School.
