In my opinion, a maths tutor can act as the bridge between the student and the learning outcome. I feel the job of a tutor is to instill confidence in the child and inculcate a joy of learning the subject. My job as a tutor is to administer lessons to students in such a way to adapt to his capabilities and to meld the subject matter with his…

In the context of Science and Mathematics, the key aspect is HOW to think. Science requires imagination, innovation as well as an excellent recall and grasp of modern scientific understanding. Mathematics, being a tool - requires the students to be well-equipped with the basic mathematical tools. To directly answer this question; a maths tutor…

The most important things a maths tutor can do for a student is definitely taking initiative in everything they do. An outstanding tutor should be able take charge and seize the initiative; being a role model, for example, if a student has an exam coming up, a tutor should take the initiative to provide extra sessions; being able to put their best…

The most important thing I can do for a student is be flexible and patient with them and build a newfound sense of confidence. Being the avenue for that…

I believe a maths tutor is not only a teacher but also a mentor. They are someone for the student to look up to, but also there to help the student develop their understanding through friendship and camaraderie. As they are separate from both school and home settings, they can offer an external and unique perspective on both academic and personal…

I think it is important for the tutor to influence the student to be more enthusiastic towards his studies. It is easier to learn stuff with focus and the right attitude. The tutor has to try and make sessions interesting. Also, at the end of the day, the student must not be dependent on the tutor. As a maths tutor, you know you have succeeded…

Inside Lane Cove WestTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Georgia reviewed her recent NAPLAN paper to identify and discuss areas for improvement.

In Year 9, Tom focused on probability with single events and practiced constructing and interpreting linear graphs from algebraic equations.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Ruby tackled simultaneous equations using both substitution and elimination methods, as well as exploring investments and loans in the context of credit cards.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student repeatedly arrived without her test book, which limited review of past assessments and slowed feedback on algebra exam technique; as a tutor noted, "she needed reminders to set out all working clearly and avoid redoing calculations."

In Year 7 mathematics, one student hesitated to write down solutions, preferring mental calculations even when asked for full working. This habit left logic gaps that made it harder to spot where confusion with negatives crept in.

Meanwhile, a primary student twice missed submitting writing homework, so lesson time shifted from skill-building to catching up—momentum was lost before ideas could really take shape.

Recent Achievements

A Lane Cove West tutor noticed Harry, a Year 9 student, now lays out his answers systematically in maths, where he used to jumble steps and lose marks for working errors.

Georgia, who struggled with visualising three-dimensional objects last term, recently translated elevation drawings into accurate 3D shapes during her session without prompting.

In English, a senior student who was previously hesitant to accept feedback on essays has started actively rewriting topic sentences and openly asks for suggestions when revising her discursive writing pieces.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Since my daughter has been tutored by Ezy Math, she has improved significantly. At the end of last year she failed the yearly test and was ranked near the bottom of her year. Now after just 3 months of tutoring , she has achieved the highest mark in her class in the  half yearly exam. This has been a great boast to her confidence in addition to a great academic achievement. She knows now that she has the ability to do well in maths. Jessica is always very well prepared for all the sessions. During this time we went away on holidays and missed 3 weeks of school. Prior to leaving Jessica covered all the topics the school was doing to ensure that she did not get behind. We are extremely happy with Ezy Math Tutoring and  highly recommend them.

I was just writing to let you know that I got better than the grade I hoped for, so everything turned out great! I wanted to say thank-you for all of your help. I would not have been able to do this without you. Thanks so much.

After two months our son's marks in year 10 maths went from the fourties to the seventies. I think most tutors know their maths but our tutor is a wonderful communicator and talented educator whom we wish to retain through the HSC.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as West Chatswood Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Mowbray Public School.
