The most important thing a maths tutor can do for a student is ensure the tutor works towards the students strengths and attempts to minimise their weaknesses. Tutors should also be considerate to their student by considering their needs and how they like to learn so that their student's highest potential is achieved. I believe I am patient,…

Make them feel at ease and completely supported, be gentle and caring and show incredibly strong belief in them. I know that children feel more courageous to take on new challenges if they feel someone has a lot of confidence in them. You have to really care about them and their results, so they know the help they are getting is genuine. I have…

I consider the tutors passion and enthusiasm towards a subject can have a positive impact on how the student receives the information. When a maths tutor is enthusiastic on the content they are teaching, this transfers to the student. I am patient and try to break down complex content ideas into manageable ideas. From experience, I have learnt…

I think a maths tutor should provide a fun, engaging and different approach to studying. A tutor should ask questions in a way a teacher hasn't got the time to do. They should always ask what the student wants and implement strategies as to how to attain these goals. But, perhaps at the forefront of responsibility, a tutor should always make sure…

Inside Maddens PlainsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Lily focused on solving quadratic equations using both the completing the square method and the quadratic formula, working through examples from her textbook.

Year 10 student Jack tackled simultaneous equations as well as logarithms, practicing solutions by hand and checking with a calculator for accuracy.

For Year 4, Ava worked on perimeter and area problems using shapes, alongside practice with missing integers to boost her number confidence.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student often assumed the order of pronumerals in trigonometry matched previous questions, which led to misapplied steps and incorrect answers—"attention to detail, especially to the pronumerals," a tutor noted.

In Year 8 English, one student preferred using spell check over attempting words independently, showing avoidance of writing practice when tired or disengaged.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student became overwhelmed during exam situations and lost focus on planning responses under pressure.

During primary lessons, another avoided showing full working for maths problems, insisting "the answer is enough by itself"—which hid errors until feedback was given.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Maddens Plains noticed Erin, a high school student, mastering both elimination and substitution methods for solving equations—something she found confusing before.

Another older student showed a big shift: after initially missing questions on a test, he was able to work through similar problems independently the next session, catching his own mistakes without prompting.

For a younger learner, Remi's approach to maths has changed; where he used to avoid word problems and struggle with adding larger numbers, he now confidently uses finger-counting strategies and needed very little direction while flying through perimeter questions last week.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Sean has a true talent for tutoring. James has bonded so well with him already, he looks forward to his sessions and already the class teacher has advised that he is understanding concepts better and may move him up a level in maths! I'm very happy with his progress. We are glad that Sean has picked up on James' difficulties and appreciate his genuine care for James' progress.

I have no doubt it was Nicole's tuition that increased Eden's understanding & test results to an acceptable level (in fact, a little beyond that). Nicole is friendly, approachable, knowledgeable & expresses her ideas in a manner that suited Eden, I felt she was able to adapt her teaching methods to cater to Eden's learning style, which is an incredibly valuable skill as a teacher/tutor.

I enjoyed working with the team and I found tutoring with EzyMath Tutoring to be an incredibly rewarding experience. I would recommend any high school or primary school student to request tutoring through EzyMath Tutoring as I believe the staff organises tutoring incredibly well and provide an incredible amount of educational material to EzyMath Tutoring tutors. I would personally thank you for all your help and encouragement throughout the program.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Thirroul Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Coledale Public School.
