Listen to the students and understand what the actual issue is. More often than not it's not the concept itself but how the student is processing the concept, and if you don't see that you'll only be able to help them understand through repetition. My ability to tailor lessons to a students needs and study styles. I enjoy working with both…

In my opinion, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to let them know that it is okay to make mistakes. People learn and understand things at a different pace and not everyone can learn from their first mistake. This is important because a student should feel comfortable in the surroundings they learn in without feeling…

The best thing a teacher can do to a student is to adapt to student's learning style. I have experienced that every student learn differently, some are visual, some hands-on discussion based and some with stories. A great tutor identifies how each student learns fast and adjust their approach accordingly. I have emotional intelligence to learn…

The most important thing is to not be judgmental. I believe it is the confidence that tutors can develop in their students, so that the stress and nervousness is lessened when it comes to taking the end-of-year exams, or even just a simple test. Also, to be able to cultivate an understanding and mutual relationship with the student so that there is no shyness or hesitation when it comes to asking…

It’s also about building their confidence, showing them they’re capable of understanding even the tricky stuff. And honestly, just…

Make them feel comfortable with you so they interact with you during the class as high interactive classes makes the subject more interesting and students tend to start liking the subject as well thereby spending more time with the subject. Easy to book. Tutor at first glance was quite young but, very sensitive to the needs of my teen and after three weeks is already more confident. Very professional service from both the tutor and head office. Highly recommended!

Inside MaidstoneTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Ruby focused on trigonometry in right-angled triangles and practiced applying Pythagoras' theorem to worded problems.

In Year 10, Adam tackled expanding and factorising quadratics, reinforcing his understanding by working through algebraic examples step-by-step.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Sam reviewed the difference between perimeter and area using measurement tasks and deepened skills with fractions, including finding lowest common multiples and adding unlike denominators.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student tackling trigonometry sometimes swapped formulas or forgot which process to use, leading to confusion during practice tests—"he forgets the formula or what to do and requires me to rejog."

In Year 9 algebra, one student hesitated to write out steps, thinking in her head instead; this made it hard for her to remember content and led to lost marks when checking answers.

A Year 8 student gave up quickly on harder problems, asking for hints rather than reviewing earlier examples.

When homework was missed in Year 7 maths, gaps appeared with reverse operations, slowing progress in class.

Recent Achievements

One Maidstone tutor noticed a big change in a Year 10 student who used to get stuck on vector problems; now he confidently explains each step and applies methods across different questions.

Another high schooler recently sat a 45-minute test without distraction—she concentrated the whole time, then debated her answers during review instead of second-guessing herself like before.

A younger student has started using her fingers to work through tricky multiplication and division tasks, showing new independence where she once hesitated to try alone.

Last week, one girl finished all her homework on time and even picked up a new formula by herself without being prompted.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Maribyrnong Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Footscray North Primary School.
