I believe taking the time with each individual student and connecting with them on a personal level is the most important thing as each student is going through different experiences and difficulties. I believe this is the difference between being a tutor to becoming a mentor as well which will elevate the students' skills in many ways not only in…

In my perspective, the most important role of a tutor is to foster a deep understanding of the subject matter while nurturing a positive attitude towards learning. Building a strong foundation and instilling confidence in students are vital. Beyond that, effective communication and the ability to create a supportive learning environment are…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is believe in each student, and provide a constant support and show up each week. All these add in maintaining a healthy relationship and connection with the student. I believe providing a comfortable place for the student greatly increases the actual learning that is able to take place. It…

Being a good mentor and setback to the students on how to be in a society. Educating in the right way, making a person a very good being, developing the children's skill is what I think is the most important thing as a tutor. One of the most damaging things one can do as a tutor is establish a blind hierarchy with their student. A tutor does not impart facts and knowledge, he or she attempts to come, along with the student, to a mutual understanding of a concept and I find that much more constructive if you approach this from a peer perspective rather than an…

A tutor must make themselves approachable and be a role model figure to their students. As someone they have a more personalized time space with compared to their school teachers, the students are often likely to look up to their tutors as figures of inspiration and personal ceilings. It is our duty as these figures to not just live up to their…

The two most important things would be to clear the basics of the subject and to keep the student interested in it. Most of the students develop phobia of maths or stop being interested in the subject because they do not understand the basics. This in turn, leads them to not focus on the subject even if they are capable of doing good in it or they…

I think the important thing for a tutor is to be clear in their concepts so that they can explain and teach their student in a clear and understanding way. This increases the chances of consistent work and improvement while also increasing the level of enjoyment while working. It is also important to help them gain an…

I think the most important things a tutor can do for students are motivating them ,appreciating them and making them more interested towards the subjects . Easy to book. Tutor at first glance was quite young but, very sensitive to the needs of my teen and after three weeks is already more confident. Very professional service from both the tutor and head office. Highly recommended!

Inside MaidstoneTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Ruby focused on trigonometry in right-angled triangles and practiced applying Pythagoras' theorem to worded problems.

In Year 10, Adam tackled expanding and factorising quadratics, reinforcing his understanding by working through algebraic examples step-by-step.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Sam reviewed the difference between perimeter and area using measurement tasks and deepened skills with fractions, including finding lowest common multiples and adding unlike denominators.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student tackling trigonometry sometimes swapped formulas or forgot which process to use, leading to confusion during practice tests—"he forgets the formula or what to do and requires me to rejog."

In Year 9 algebra, one student hesitated to write out steps, thinking in her head instead; this made it hard for her to remember content and led to lost marks when checking answers.

A Year 8 student gave up quickly on harder problems, asking for hints rather than reviewing earlier examples.

When homework was missed in Year 7 maths, gaps appeared with reverse operations, slowing progress in class.

Recent Achievements

One Maidstone tutor noticed a big change in a Year 10 student who used to get stuck on vector problems; now he confidently explains each step and applies methods across different questions.

Another high schooler recently sat a 45-minute test without distraction—she concentrated the whole time, then debated her answers during review instead of second-guessing herself like before.

A younger student has started using her fingers to work through tricky multiplication and division tasks, showing new independence where she once hesitated to try alone.

Last week, one girl finished all her homework on time and even picked up a new formula by herself without being prompted.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Maribyrnong Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Footscray North Primary School.
