According to me the most important trait in a tutor is patience. It is not necessary that each child learns at the same pace. A tutor should also possess the ability to create and provide problem statements which help the student to get a grip over the topic. Along with a good speaker a tutor must be a good listener making the session more…

Inside Mawson LakesTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Labiba focused on calculating area and perimeter, and practiced total surface area and volume for cylinders, cones, and spheres using worked examples.

For Year 11, Elissa tackled kinematics problems in preparation for a test, including projectile motion calculations and resolving doubts about calculus applications in physics.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Leticia revised differentiation from first principles and equations of tangents and normals to curves, with additional attention given to finding constants in curve equations using tangent information.

Recent Challenges

During a Year 11 maths session, Labiba's habit of "rushing through calculations" led to repeated errors in number substitution and missing key steps with decimals and rounding.

In a senior physics lesson, one student relied heavily on referencing formula sheets for SHE concepts—slowing problem-solving and causing unit mistakes ("used the wrong units for wavelengths").

Meanwhile, Eliza in Year 8 needed frequent prompts to recall foundational arithmetic like prime numbers or multiplication as repeated addition; this left little time for new material.

Isobel, also Year 8, grew frustrated when falling behind, staying silent even when confused during booklet tasks.

Recent Achievements

In Year 10, Marley started solving tough questions independently after marking the ones she found difficult and giving them a second look—something she wouldn't attempt before.

For a senior student working on trigonometry, she's now able to quickly spot correct formulas and finishes homework ahead of time, where previously she'd hesitate or need reminders.

Meanwhile, Eliza (Year 5) was much more open about asking for help this week; by the end of the session, she solved all fraction activities unaided.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Cassidy has had one session with Scott. Cassidy came home very positive, saying that Scott was great at explaining concepts and that he will benefit from his tutoring support. Cassidy related well with Scott and seemed very impressed by his level of knowledge and by his academic progress at university. In effect, Scott is a great role model for Cassidy. I hope this all continues well.

Thanks for your email, Mitchell is really excited to have Ken as his tutor, he made a great impression when he came along for a chat and that high expectation has continued. He has a natural way with him and engages well with Mitchell, unlocking the mysteries and some tricks to understanding Math. We also like that Ken is a skilled tutor in many subjects so are looking forward to a long term relationship with him as a mentor for Mitchell. Someone that has worked hard to achieve success which is what we all want for our children. Thanks again I feel this match will be a good one.

Yes we are very happy with Jacinta. She is lovely and Emily likes her. She seems to be very suited to Emily, as she has a very practical approach to helping Emily with her Math's, and understood straight away what Emily's basic needs were. We look forward to Jacinta tutoring Emily this year.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mawson Lakes Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Endeavour College.
