Individuality. As I have spent time as a basketball coach and a chemistry tutor. In this time I have learnt how different people intake knowledge and how different people need support. After graduation I started studying a Bachelor of Nursing in 2020. During that year, I realized this was not what I wanted to do. I realized I had a real passion…

The most important thing a tutor must do for a student is listening. To me, there's a big difference between listening and hearing someone. Hearing is simply the ability to use your ears. However being able to listen to the student, understanding where they are coming from is a whole new skill. Math has always been one of my strongpoints back in…

It has to come from my intention to teach and improve the student's quality of life. Without it, teaching will be bland, inauthentic, and forgettable. It also has to come from giving students the ability to think and solve challenging problems by themselves. Without it, the student will not develop independency or grit to solve life's ordeal. One…

A tutor should first be very welcoming and create a warm environment for students. In order to help students achieve their highest potential tutors should adapt and create new engaging ways of teaching the subject to make the student feel confident and have fun while learning it. I believe the most important role of a tutor is to create an environment where the student feels fully comfortable and confident. It’s crucial that they never hesitate to ask questions or admit when something isn’t clear. When students feel safe and supported, genuine learning can take place. After that, I think it’s about helping them…

Teach student life. Being kind human is better than an arrogant genius. I look up to my mentors, who not only taught me skills, but also gave me their thoughts and their experience. I do like to keep that in mind and be very careful of how I think and act around them, as the most important thing a tutor can do is teach a student the biggest…

A tutor can do a lot for a student. But I feel like the most important thing that can be done is to change the idea of a negative notion about a subject in the students mind. Attitude plays a key role in learning, and diminishing that fear, and giving the student confidence can really change their entire interest and perception about that certain…

One of the most significant roles I believe a tutor can play for a student is to inspire a vision for a brighter future and a better life. A tutor serves as a guiding light, helping students navigate not only academic challenges but also shaping their path forward in life, extending beyond the boundaries of subject-specific problems. For me,…

A good tutor will make sure that the student understands a particular concept rather than just learn how to solve a particular problem because that way the student can apply the learning in different situations and come up with ways to find the solution by…

The most important thing a tutor can do is be a mentor. These little details play a major role in the tutee's overall success. My strengths as a tutor include deep understanding of…

A tutor should be able to and simplify a particular concept making it easier for a student to understand. A tutor should also be able to motivate the student and provide constant encouragement when the student is feeling demotivated. A tutor should also be able to adapt and improve teaching styles depending on the student and their progress. It…

The most important thing is that they understand the theories behind certain topics. Inside MorningsideTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Rebecca focused on long division of polynomials and applications of derivatives to functions.

In Year 11, Daniel worked through solving quadratic equations using the quadratic formula and revisited area properties for right-angled triangles.

For Year 12, Michael concentrated on bivariate data analysis and time series analysis, including calculating moving averages, as part of his exam preparation.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Maths Methods, a student who transitioned from General Maths struggled to attempt questions independently; as one tutor noted, "she needed more guidance than expected with exam-style problems."

In another senior case, feedback provided on a PSMT draft was not fully addressed before final submission, meaning missed opportunities for improvement.

Meanwhile, in Year 8, messy written work during linear equations tasks made it hard to spot errors and slowed revision.

In primary years, unfinished homework remained an ongoing issue—especially with assigned worksheets—which meant less class time could be devoted to new concepts.

Recent Achievements

One Morningside tutor noticed Dyllan, a high school student, has started to tackle long division of polynomials independently after needing significant prompting in earlier sessions—he now checks his own work by expanding brackets without reminders.

Meanwhile, Phoenix, also in high school, made real strides using Excel for statistical analysis; he not only created scatter plots and regression lines but began interpreting relationships between variables on his own.

At the primary level, Mikayla shifted from waiting passively for help to actively asking questions when stuck during homework—something she hadn't done before this term.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bulimba Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Morningside State School.
