I believe that a tutor should be patient and focus on the things that students are struggling with. I also believe that practice makes perfect! Instead of memorisations that can be mundane for a student, I believe that it is a tutor's job to make a student's work exciting, ensuring that they are always curious and willing to learn. It is also very…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is adapt to suit their needs. Whilst many tutors can simply pass on content, a strong tutor is capable of teaching content in a way that suits the learning needs of a student. This may include using different communication methods, teaching at different paces and understanding the students…

It is important to be patient and approachable so that students feel comfortable coming to you with their queries. Availability and dependability is also important. If a student has last minute issues the night before their exam it is important that they can rely on their tutor to get back to them by the end of the day with an answer. I am patient…

To help a student walk the right path that he/she desires. A tutor should understand a students passion and dream and help them achieve this dream. Acknowledging one's own failure and encouraging students to learn from his/her mistakes rather than losing hope. Student needs to understand why they are smothered with all this education, the reason…

Instead only focus on academic results, study ability and habit is more important. Tutors can only help students in school time to support their study, anything beyound school and further into the society needs student's own capabilities. These capabilities are crucial to their personal success. In my opinion, the following question reflects the…

The most important thing for the tutor is always being creative with their classes and thinking outside the box so that their teaching style is different from the conventional method of teaching. I think it is vital to understand the students individual needs insteald of just dropping a premade template on top of them based on their course content. Tutors should build on the foundations of a lesson. The proverb holds true: "If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime." We're giving students the tools necessary not to just answer the question, but to be able to have the knowledge and wisdom to apply those tools to other challenges…

I think understanding that every kid is different and special in their own way, and they have their own needs and methods of approaching problems is very important. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student, in my opinion, is provide a learning environment free from both the rigid structure and inherent judgement present in centres of mass education. A calmer, more personal environment allows the establishment of time tables and study plans more conducive to the individual student. There is also…

Inside MosmanTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Zara worked through volume and unit conversions, practising with real-world measurement examples.

In Year 9, Sam tackled expanding polynomials and reducing fractions step-by-step using practice questions.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Olivia focused on analysing the function domain and range as well as applying function notation to problem-solving exercises.

Recent Challenges

In Year 5 English, one student avoided answering addition questions that involved carrying numbers and chose only easier homework problems, as a tutor noted: "She completed long addition questions that did not need carrying."

In Year 7 Maths, another student repeatedly guessed answers and waited for feedback instead of showing his own working, leading to less independent problem-solving.

A Year 10 student left assigned pre-reading for an English play unfinished, which meant class time was spent explaining context rather than tackling questions.

When homework or in-class note-taking is skipped or incomplete, valuable practice and test preparation opportunities are lost.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Mosman noted that one high school student, Lachy, has become much more proactive about his learning—he now arrives well prepared for English sessions and is able to answer most questions independently, a shift from previous lessons where he relied more on guidance.

Another older student, Ollie, recently completed over 90% of a mock maths test quickly and correctly after showing much sharper recall of both new and old concepts; previously, he struggled with formula recollection under pressure.

Meanwhile, in a younger session, Theo stopped guessing at spelling tasks and instead began checking for the "ty" ending in number words—a change from earlier lessons when he'd give up or guess randomly.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We are very happy with Amanat. My son enjoys his sessions with him and that is a huge indicator for me as a parent. Amanat is so lovely and approachable with any questions I have and I like his commitment to my sons learning even though he is busy himself, nothing is ever an issue. I would recommend your business to other people and especially Amanat.

I am extremely happy with Nicky's tutoring. She instantly developed a lovely rapport with my daughter Bonnie. Nicky is very patient and great at explaining maths concepts in a way that is easy for Bonnie to understand. I am already seeing a much more positive attitude to maths in Bonnie and she feels more confident to do maths lessons at school. We got a good one!

Oscar is learning more from Sean than he is in the classroom. Sean is very patient and has established rapport.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mosman Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Mosman High School.
