Chemistry Tutor Blakiston, SA
I think that an important thing for a chemistry tutor to do is to be available, even if it be through technology or in person. As a student, I understand that sometimes it may just be a singular question that gets you down, or in other cases an entire unit. Hence, being able to support all circumstances is imperative. Another important factor…

Sarah has been really supportive of my daughters learning. I can see her confidence with maths develop. I love just knowing she is getting the extra support she needs every week.

Inside Mount Barker SpringsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Sydney focused on building multiplication skills using worksheets and textbooks, then tackled fraction fundamentals including equivalence and representing fractions on a number line.

Year 6 student Sophie reviewed vertical addition and subtraction from a recent test, practised multi-step worded problems to improve comprehension, and reinforced strategies for multiplying large numbers through layout techniques and times tables games.

Meanwhile, Jay (Year 5) concentrated on mental maths strategies to boost times tables fluency, worked with division by 4, and used playing cards for engaging multiplication practice.

Recent Challenges

A Year 6 student found it hard to concentrate during lessons after busy school days or sports, which meant some homework was left incomplete or rushed—one tutor noted, "She was reluctant to finish her homework because she was tired."

In Year 8 maths, skipping over careful reading of worded questions led to avoidable mistakes and confusion about what the task required.

For a Year 9 lesson on area and enlargement, hesitation and low confidence saw her giving up quickly when problems seemed overwhelming; this made it difficult to attempt new strategies or check answers thoroughly.

Recent Achievements

In a Year 10 session, Jay moved from making frequent errors in division to consistently spotting and correcting his own mistakes—something he struggled with before.

Meanwhile, Sophie (Year 9) surprised herself by starting her own revision notes before the lesson began, showing initiative she hadn't shown previously.

With a younger student, Sydney (Year 4), there's been real growth in tackling worded maths problems; after hesitating at first, she now breaks down questions independently and finished all the set fraction problems on her own this week.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Thanks for all your help with Griffin over the years. Its really made a difference to his grades.

We are very pleased with the tutoring and Nafuil is a very pleasant young man and easy to talk to. I was a bit concerned that Autumn might be a bit shy with him but she really likes him and all is well. Nafiul has advised that Autumn only has small gaps in her knowledge and he is assisting her with gaining this knowledge.

Cassandra has told me that her new tutor DJ has an excellent teaching style. He shows her every step of a maths problem and encourages questions. DJ also goes to the effort of making up personalised worksheets for her based on her maths book. Thank you, DJ, the effort is appreciated.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mount Barker Community Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Mount Barker Waldorf School.
