I believe that it is important for tutors to be passionate about teaching. This way, it is easier for the student to gain interest in the subject, which ultimately leads to better performance from the student as they are more motivated to study and learn. I also think that it is important for tutors to create a comfortable learning environment for…

Help. A tutor should allow for the student to work with their strengths to solve problems, and also to work on weaknesses. an english tutor should work with a student, ie. adapt to how different students work, and help them work according to their process. 1. The most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is help them become more confident with themselves about their ability to achieve the grade they want in the subject they want. As a wise person once said, "if you believe, you're already half way there." As a tutor I want to be able to help my students believe in themselves so they…

For this reason, I believe the most important component of tutoring is not working through content, but reflecting and future planning to ensure the student believes they have the skills…

I believe the most powerful way an english tutor can aid a student is by giving them confidence. More than often, students can show more vulnerability in a one-on-one session than in a classroom surrounded by their peers, and so the best thing I can do is use these private sessions to impart confidence in the students by making them see ways they…

Tutors are expected to bolster student grades however this is not their true purpose, A tutor should help to develop students to not only achieve greater marks but also to have a greater understanding of the field they are being tutored in. This should extend beyond the tutoring time as the student develops the skills required to support…

Heather Goode, Mount Osmond

Inside Mount OsmondTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Lucy worked on consolidating her understanding of index laws and practiced adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions.

In Year 10, Divyanshu tackled differentiating simple rational functions using first principles in Maths and focused on stoichiometry and unit conversions like %w/v and mol/L in Chemistry.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Zac reviewed tricky chain rule questions before learning the product rule in differentiation, then moved to Chemistry to deepen his grasp of chromatography concepts such as Rf values and retention time.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 Chemistry, one student's written responses often lacked precise terminology and structure when explaining solubility or drawing organic molecules. As a tutor noted, "He struggles to view the entire problem and develop a 'game plan' before tackling a question," which led to confusion in multi-step tasks like titrations or back titration calculations.

In Year 8 Maths, another student hesitated to write out full working for negative numbers or complex fractions—sometimes only attempting parts they felt confident with—making it difficult to identify where misunderstandings occurred during revision sessions.

Recent Achievements

A Mount Osmond tutor noticed Zac, a Year 9 student who previously struggled to write at length, completed an entire essay on his own and soon after scored an A on his English assignment—he's now identifying weak points in his writing without prompting.

Meanwhile, Divyanshu in senior high school chemistry has moved from needing support with ionic equations to independently solving unfamiliar problems and accurately suggesting chemical reagents during practice.

In a younger session, Lucy started tackling fraction questions she once avoided and now applies index laws with minimal help, even asking for extra practice when unsure.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Mina helped me to improve considerably so that I felt confident and capable going into my final year 12 exams.

Mina was excellent in helping my son with last-minute HSC exam preparation. Thanks Mina

Kicking myself for not starting tutor earlier! It would have helped tremendously with Jayden's studies and being able to work independently!

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Burnside Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Seymour College.
