I believe as a tutor, it is important to teach the subject to the student in a way that is enjoyable while still delivering the knowledge across. It is important that the tutor is not simply feeding the student equations or tricks to achieve good marks, but that the tutor is helping the student understand the topic enough to be able to solve…

The most important thing a tutor can do is understand the strengths and the weaknesses of the student and then align their method of teaching, thereby rendering a teaching which the student be able to grasp and apply. My key strength as a tutor is that since I am 3-4 years elder to them, I can be more empathetic and I might conduct classes in a…

The most important area that a tutor can provide a student is to make sure they are in a comfortable and non-judgmental environment. I believe this is the first step in helping those that are not too keen in school or homework. After providing a friendly setting, this would lay the foundation that would help enable the student to develop a…

It sounds basic but it is a common error made by tutors. Making sure that the student understands more than just how to solve the problem. That they understand the underlying concepts behind every problems they do. Even if they do not wish to pursue the field in the future, understanding the concepts will give them the confidence to approach all…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them feel listened to and valued. I think the most important aspect as a tutor is to listen to the student and foster independence. I think the most important thing, is that you not only teach students. You learn to grow with them, you make sure that your students are able to be successful, and you are a small contributor to that success, but along the way, you grow with them, you understand the way they learn, so that you could learn with them. I think that my strengths, are…

Answering the questions a student asks as they only ask if they truly do not understand a particular part and as a tutor its our duty to make them understand. A key for tutoring is to have patience to guide someone no matter how slow a person understands the particular subject and I do have that key. Plus, I would take the responsibility making…

SO HAVING CONDUCTED A NEEDS ANALYSIS, THEN THE TUTOR SHOULD OPT FOR THE MOST APPROPRIATE APPROACH TO REMOVE THE STUDENT'S WEAKNESSES AND PROBLEMATIC…

Local Reviews

I've had a wonderful experience with this tutoring service. It's so easy to connect with the team—whether you prefer picking up the phone or sending an email, the client service representatives are quick to respond. They provide a clear overview of expectations and requirements, and then you can sit back while they take care of matching your child with the right tutor. The convenience of having sessions at home, at a time that fits your schedule, really helps relieve the stress of managing other responsibilities. The trial session before committing makes it easy to ensure you're paired with the right person to meet your child's individual needs. After that, it's just a simple process to reallocate sessions and you're good to go—everyone's happy. I also appreciate the discount for paying upfront for sessions. The representatives are always easy to connect with, and they follow up to make sure everything is going smoothly. We've been really pleased with the tutors assigned to us, and it's clear the team takes time to carefully match tutors based on our needs. Overall, a great experience!

Inside Mount WaverleyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Jessica worked on plotting linear graphs, including handling multiple lines on a single Cartesian plane, and used real examples to understand gradients and intercepts.

In Year 10, Ryan focused on quadratic equations by practicing completing the square and explored graphing parabolas with dilations and translations.

For Year 12, Ethan revised differentiation techniques such as the chain, product, and quotient rules and applied these skills to solve application questions from past exam papers.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Specialist Maths, a student waited until the last day to complete homework on simultaneous equations, leading to forgotten steps and gaps in recall—"by which she has forgotten what we learned last week."

In VCE Methods revision, another learner avoided writing full working or using correct notation when tackling calculus and graphing tasks; equal signs and logical layout were often missing, making it harder to track errors or secure marks.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 session revealed distraction from mobile phones during lessons, with note-taking left incomplete and explanations needing extra time to land. The result: confusion lingers where clarity was needed most.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Mount Waverley noticed a big shift with one Year 11 student who, after weeks of hesitating to speak up, started asking for clarification whenever something was unclear—especially during tricky calculus problems.

Another high school student, previously overwhelmed by her school's approach, surprised herself by requesting extra homework at the end of the session and tackling it independently.

Meanwhile, a younger student showed real initiative: she now catches her own mistakes in maths without prompting and even laughs about "silly errors" instead of getting discouraged. Last week, she redid all her practice questions solo after reviewing the method together.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Ivana has been helping, and sent through some good notes and concepts for him to view.

Jessica and Mohamed had a great start and I think Mohamed is doing a good job getting to know Jessica. I'm pleased with his teaching style and method.

Evangeline is lovely. She is very patient with Steph and takes the time to explain things quite clearly to her. After Evangeline has been, Steph is very happy and excited that she has learned something new.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Monash Public Library Service—or at your child's school (with permission), like Holy Family School.
