The most important thing an economics tutor can do for a student is to plan ahead and to revise to ensure that the student is able to complete previously covered topics. My strengths as a tutor are my planning ability and improvisation which may be necessary if the student is behind on work or the parents change what they wish to focus…

Having both been the tutee and the tutor, I believe that it is imperative that an economics tutor is supportive of the student and caters their teaching to the student's specific needs. Tutoring is only truly effective when the student is completely engaged with the tutor and I believe that this can only happen when the student believes that they…

Giving a student freedom to think and question are most important things an economics tutor should do, additionally not restricting students to one method and a rigid way should be the priority. Teaching being my abosolute favourite thing is my strength also knowing the subjects deeply adds to it. I have been tutoring children from class 1 to 5…

I think one of the most important things an economics tutor can do for a student is be somewhat a friend rather than just an instructor or teacher. This is because I believe establishing a bit of a personal bond is very important for a successful tutor-tutee relationship as the student is more likely to be open about more of the issues that they…

Have clear objectives: I want me and my students to know where we are heading, what is our final destination. Having clear objectives help set the pathway to succeeding. Have a positive attitude: As most students don't want to spend more hours studying and be enjoying spare time instead, my goal is to remain positive in order to remind them why we…

As a passionate tutor, the responsibility to create confidence and trust is vital in learning. Confidence allows students to tackle difficult and complex problems, serving as a 'stepping stone' to build a mathematical foundation. It can also act as an incentive for students to engage in lessons comprised of challenges. Furthermore, building trust…

I think one of the most important traits an economics tutor needs is patience. It is not helpful to make the student feel stupid or inadequate and of course each student is unique and learns at a different pace. Patience is pivotal to make the student feel like it is a safe space to ask questions, be willing to rephrase concepts until they…

The most important thing an economics tutor can do for a student is to engage in thorough discussions about their thought processes, providing real-time feedback. I think the biggest benefit an economics tutor can have is to help instill in a student a sense of confidence in their ability to learn. Regardless of how much subject matter a student is able to retain, they will have a lot of learning to do beyond when they are being tutored, so I believe it is at least as important for students to be…

I believe it is vital that a student feels as though they have accomplished something at the end of each session and that there is a sense of progression felt for the student after each session. A tutor should be able to make the student work at a comfortable pace that does not stress them out or make them feel uncomfortable. Lastly, I believe a…

Inside NarraweenaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Ava worked on multiplying two-digit numbers using the grid method and reviewed key phonemes and graphemes in English.

For Year 9, Lucas practised solving simultaneous equations by both substitution and elimination methods, as well as finding points of intersection between lines.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Maya focused on applying trigonometry to non-right-angled triangles and interpreting compass bearings through diagram-based questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra, one student "solved questions in his head," which led to confusion with signs and missing calculation errors—his written work was sparse, making it difficult to catch mistakes during review.

For a Year 10 geometry topic, another student often omitted final units or misread key words under exam pressure; as noted, "he sometimes forgets to add the final units which may cost him a mark."

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student's workbook showed inconsistent layout and slow writing speed; equations were written horizontally instead of stacked, leading to muddled working. In these moments, clarity slipped away just when accuracy mattered most.

Recent Achievements

One Narraweena tutor recently saw a big shift in Will, a high school student who used to mix up positive and negative values—he now solves challenging algebra questions without hesitation and no longer confuses the two.

Scarlett, also in high school, struggled at first with simultaneous equations under pressure but managed to complete them accurately during revision sessions set up like real exams.

Meanwhile, Morgan (Year 5) has moved from guessing to deliberately breaking compound shapes into smaller parts for area calculations and now explains her steps out loud instead of rushing through.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

And on a personal note to Barry - Rob Jake and I thank him immensely for the wonderful work he has done.  Jake has now become so much more confident and is enjoying his Maths !!

Rishi has given Juliette 2 tutorials. So far so good. He quickly established a good rapport with Juliette and found where her strengths and weaknesses were.  She had a maths exam today and she said there was only one question that was challenging.

I loved my experience as a tutor! Being a tutor at Ezy Math taught me priceless communication and interpersonal skills. It was a very rewarding experience to see my students learn and improve on their studies over the year, and Ezy Math always gave me the teaching support whenever I needed it. The hours were flexible and easy to schedule in around my other commitments.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Dee Why Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Narraweena Public School.
