The most important thing a tutor can do for a student, is to understand their obstacles, may it be a particular math topic or studying maths itself. Inside NarraweenaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Ava worked on multiplying two-digit numbers using the grid method and reviewed key phonemes and graphemes in English.

For Year 9, Lucas practised solving simultaneous equations by both substitution and elimination methods, as well as finding points of intersection between lines.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Maya focused on applying trigonometry to non-right-angled triangles and interpreting compass bearings through diagram-based questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra, one student "solved questions in his head," which led to confusion with signs and missing calculation errors—his written work was sparse, making it difficult to catch mistakes during review.

For a Year 10 geometry topic, another student often omitted final units or misread key words under exam pressure; as noted, "he sometimes forgets to add the final units which may cost him a mark."

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student's workbook showed inconsistent layout and slow writing speed; equations were written horizontally instead of stacked, leading to muddled working. In these moments, clarity slipped away just when accuracy mattered most.

Recent Achievements

One Narraweena tutor recently saw a big shift in Will, a high school student who used to mix up positive and negative values—he now solves challenging algebra questions without hesitation and no longer confuses the two.

Scarlett, also in high school, struggled at first with simultaneous equations under pressure but managed to complete them accurately during revision sessions set up like real exams.

Meanwhile, Morgan (Year 5) has moved from guessing to deliberately breaking compound shapes into smaller parts for area calculations and now explains her steps out loud instead of rushing through.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Bella thinks that Benjamin is very nice and is helping her a lot so that's great.

Thank you for your note. We've really enjoyed Dan - very diligent and patient as he works Jack through some very tricky concepts. All going well at this end.

We couldn't be happier with Lachlan, he has built an instant rapport and James is noticeably enjoying maths and tutoring.  Thank-you.
