It is also important to help students visualise problems and identify the student’s learning style so that they are able to present information in a way that has the greatest effect. I think a few of my best strengths would be my patience, communication skills, flexibility, openness to…

The most important part of being a tutor is to provide support. I gain trust with my students by showing them that I am there to support them fully. I engage with them one on one and ensure that there is truly no question 'too stupid' that they cannot ask me for help with. I find over time how the student personally learns and work with their own…

A tutor should spend time to listen to the needs of the student and spend time to build the students confidence in their own ability. By being a listener and confidence builder, this can inspire the student to tackle challenging and difficult problems and questions therefore imparting not just academic skills but life skills as well. I think being patient, open, and understanding is the most important thing in tutoring. For me, back when I was a student, I love when my tutors let me use my methods first, then gave me efficient learning strategies to excellently work, as this also aligns with your philosophy, I want to implement this with my future students as-well. A tutor is…

In summary, I think it is very relevant to create a safe space for students to learn. I have a lot of paciente…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is break the subject down as much as possible and really ensure that they understand in their own way before moving on to the next thing. I believe the most important role of a tutor is to understand their students well, recognizing both their strengths and weaknesses. By focusing more on areas where students struggle, a tutor can provide targeted support. Additionally, keeping study sessions engaging is essential, as a dull environment can hinder students' ability to grasp new…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to guide them and give them strategies so they are able to learn and comprehend material with less assistance over time. Inside NedlandsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Sofia worked on identifying and using nouns, adverbs, verbs, and adjectives in English, alongside practicing multiplication tables for 4, 6, 7, 8, and 12.

In Year 8, Chloe focused on understanding isomorphic graphs and adjacency matrices in preparation for an upcoming test.

For Year 10, Daniel tackled Pythagoras' Theorem by finding hypotenuse lengths as well as working through problems requiring calculation of unknown side lengths given the hypotenuse.

Recent Challenges

In recent lessons, a Year 9 student did not complete assigned homework and sometimes brought only answers rather than full working, which made it hard to pinpoint where understanding was lost.

A tutor noted, "He relied on mental maths for division instead of writing steps," leading to repeated errors in basic calculations.

In Year 11 Maths Methods, messy written work during standard deviation questions meant time was wasted hunting for calculation slips instead of focusing on new concepts.

Another senior student skipped practicing harder problems and depended heavily on calculators before attempting questions by hand, especially under exam pressure.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Nedlands noticed that a Year 10 student who used to get stuck on worded trigonometry questions is now breaking down each part independently and double-checking his steps, which wasn't happening a few weeks ago.

Another recent high school session saw Chloe challenge herself by working through matrices unaided for the first time, showing she's comfortable relying on her own skills.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student who previously hesitated to ask for help with tricky multiplication now openly checks his thinking out loud and requests clarification whenever he's unsure.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Nedlands Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Nedlands Primary School.
