As a tutor, I believe the most vital role I can play for a student is to serve as a reliable guide on their learning journey. I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to be a supportive mentor, create a comfortable learning environment, and help them truly understand and enjoy the subject. A tutor should not only guide students toward good grades, but also inspire passion in science and learning. I think my strengths as a tutor are a solid…

Students can of course vary greatly in their strengths, difficulties and needs. This is true both intrinsically and as a function of development and external context. The most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is therefore to diagnose those individual needs, and "meet the student where they are." The essential problem of tutoring…

In my opinion, one of the most important things a tutor can do is to make it clear to a student that they are capable and believe in their abilities as a student. This establishes trust and goes a long way in terms of fixing problems of difficulties in any subject area. It will also build a student's confidence in themself all while knowing there…

Being a teacher, it's his/her duty to make the student understand any concept accurately with an ease and with great patience. It is not right to shout or get angry on any person if he or she is not able to do any thing, all you need is some time and practice and also some tricks to solve any problem. I am a very patient person and work with full…

The most important things a tutor can do is provide a enriching and safe learning environment for their tutee. Encouraging students while also providing deep guidance to the student are what contribute to this. I tend to find the people learn best when they enjoy learning instead of through academic pressure. While pressure can form diamonds, it…

The tutor can find a common wavelength and understand the student's way of grasping. Every student has a different way of learning and perceive stuff. i find out different ways to solve one question. I believe each student has a set goal in their minds. Therefore, the most important thing that I think I can do for a student, is to make sure they reach their desired goal and preferably even surpass it. This will teach them that they can achieve anything as long as they put in the work and come in with the right attitude. I am very attentive and…

I think it is a tutor's job to make the subject fun for the kid and make them love the subject, not develop a hate for it. I used to hate chemistry back in highschool and found it very hard until I found a tutor who made me understand it and I eventually started to love the subject. I ended up getting an A* in the subject. I would want to follow…

When these three things are combined, a young learner may be able to completely rethink a class, subject, or school as a whole. A tutor should be patient and should be able to accomodate oneself with the students. The main aim of the tutor should be to suit to the needs of the child. I always say that the most important thing is being patient. I know that every child is different, so tutors have to adapt to each child and teach children in the appropriate way, since each student understands subjects differently. I am a young person, so I am able to understand a child in many situations. I am aware of mental health and the…

Inside New FarmTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Ben practised identifying and writing sentences with metaphors, similes, and personification to boost creative language skills.

For Year 11, Ella worked through her Maths Essentials assignment—focusing on completing the conclusion section—and reviewed feedback for her English IA2 task.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Jack explored chemical stoichiometry by balancing equations and briefly reviewed a recent maths assignment for clarity.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student often arrived unprepared, with forgotten materials and assignments, which made it difficult to settle quickly into lessons.

In Year 10 Maths, he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors, resulting in more time spent retracing calculations than progressing.

A senior Chemistry student became sidetracked by unrelated physics content during revision, leading to incomplete review of essential topics before an upcoming assessment.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 English draft was overloaded with information but lacked clear referencing—feedback given wasn't fully addressed in the final submission, leaving assignment requirements unmet and creating last-minute stress.

Recent Achievements

One New Farm tutor noted that a Year 11 student who had previously hesitated to ask for help is now openly seeking clarification during sessions, making it much easier to target her learning needs.

In a recent Year 9 session, a student who struggled with focus earlier in the term stayed engaged through the whole lesson and completed his assignment draft with only minor corrections needed.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student showed new independence by attempting every question unprompted in his maths test—something he avoided before—and finished the series pattern problems entirely on his own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as New Farm Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Holy Spirit School.
