Parents of my students frequently tell me that their kids feel safe and loved in my classroom. As someone who grew up in a family that struggled financially, I am constantly looking out for signs that a youngster may be hungry, exhausted, or in need. One sixth-grade student immediately stood out to me when I first started teaching because he was…

I believe the key traits in tutoring children are to always have a calm demeanor and also be open-minded about new ideas and methods to conduct a lesson. At the same time, the tutor should always inspire his students to dream big! I had been teaching students for over four years and have developed excellent knowledge of providing customized…

As a tutor, the most important thing is to improve the student marks and to be interested and make them enjoy in the subjects they study. Additionally a tutor has to assist and encourage the student in learning processes and help them finish homework. Lastly, explaining the sums instead of learning theories by heart is also a challenging…

I believe that the most important thing that a tutor can do is be proactive when carrying out their tasks and roles. I set up goals by coming up with strategies for individual sections, and giving students ways to measure how well they’re implementing the strategy. Implementing these strategies successfully on homework is a short-term goal, on practice tests are intermediate goals, and on their live exam is a long-term goal. It is fine if students are slow to…

I think the greatest gift a tutor can provide to a student is support. School can often be an isolating and intimidating experience, and often students, despite being remarkably talented, feel afraid to take risks and go beyond what is expected of them. A tutor can also make the learning experience far more rewarding and enjoyable. Students feel…

For me, I consider giving them the knowledge and confidence to be able to step out of their comfort zone to achieve something previously unachievable the most important thing. I think the most important thing a tutor can do is not give their tutees the answer, but give their tutees ways to get to the answer. Teaching students how to understand problems at a fundamental level, break them down into parts they can individually understand and then piece together, ideally all on their own. This kind of critical thinking…

Great service. Our tutor Iqra is excellent. Very responsible and always makes sure that Hazel feels comfortable with tasks. She often stays extra time to give Hazel breaks. Hazel has become more confident with maths and is enjoying it. I actually asked my daughter if she wanted to continue with tuition and she said, "yes mum it makes a difference ". That's all I needed to hear. Thank you for a great service.

Inside North RocksTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Cadence focused on calculating areas and perimeters as well as tackling division problems using her school homework.

Year 6 student Caesar worked through probability questions and practiced converting between different units of time.

For a high schooler, Year 8 Mia reviewed indices laws and completed revision exercises involving simplifying expressions with both positive and negative exponents.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student was reminded to "show working instead of thinking about the question," but often avoided writing steps in algebra, making it harder to catch errors and slowing progress on new concepts.

In Year 7, a student frequently forgot homework when revising for a test—this meant less targeted feedback during lessons.

Another senior student struggled with aligning decimals correctly in calculations, which led to answers being off by factors of ten or more.

Meanwhile, in primary years, one learner's messy handwriting made subtraction mistakes harder to spot; as a tutor noted, "his layout made it difficult to check his own work."

Recent Achievements

One North Rocks tutor noted that Jasper, a high school student, managed to solve extension-level algebraic equations and indices on his own after previously needing more support with similar problems.

In another recent session, Jacob, also in high school, successfully remembered and applied the laws of indices adaptively to new questions—he'd often hesitated before when presented with unfamiliar formats.

Meanwhile, Marcelino in Year 5 has begun thinking independently on number line questions instead of waiting for hints; last week he divided a number line into quarters by himself and explained his reasoning without prompting.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I came to Ezy Math tutoring honestly because tutoring seemed like the best thing that would fit into my timetable. What I didn't expect was how much I would enjoy teaching the students. I found myself excited to come to tutoring, committed to doing all the prep work and checking up on my students before and after a big exam. I'm not gonna lie, its a lot of work but with even more reward as you see the students you're teaching slowly start to understand and apply their content. I felt my greatest achievement was taking a 60% achieving student in the second year 10 maths class and encouraging and working with him until he was hitting mid-90s marks and had been accepted into ext 1 maths for this year. I'm sad to leave Ezy math because I really enjoyed tutoring but I Would definitely recommend it to anyone. The support at Ezy math was the best. Even though I never met a staff member I felt they were great at checking up on me and helping me when I needed it!

My biggest accomplishment while working with EzyMath was learning how to organise myself more effectively and juggle multiple jobs at a time, which has turned out to be a very useful skill. Why I came to work for EzyMath was because I wanted to help students gain the confidence they need to complete high school and the HSC because I remember what it felt like for me at the time! I got useful skills out of the tutoring experience - soft skills and organisational skills.I would recommend EzyMath as an employer to people who are organised and dedicated because they can genuinely get a lot out of it and I would definitely recommend EzyMath to prospective students.

I joined EzyMath more than 2 years ago. The admin has always been around to help and replied to my emails promptly. I was offered a number of students, few of which I continued for 2 years. My biggest accomplishment as an EzyMath tutor was to help students grow, as well as benefit from it for my own growth. I started tutoring a student when he was starting his year 7 and tutored him till he was starting year 9. I hope that the student benefited from my guidance, but there was a lot I could learn from the session as well. Working with young children has been a tremendous benefit since they possess such vibrant energy. I came to work at EzyMath as a uni student looking for a part time work. EzyMath was professional, motivated and constantly taking feedback from the tutors and the students to enrich the tutoring experience for all. I would certainly recommend tutoring for EzyMath, for both clients and prospective tutors.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Carlingford Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like North Rocks Public School.
