A tutor must have a good listening abilities so they can correct students mistakes and resolve them in the process of learning. Teacher should also make studies fun by giving real life examples and experiments so that students would enjoy their lessons and never get bored. I believe tutors exist to help extend the foundations of what students are taught in schools, whether it be through analysing old concepts with a finer view or reinforcing newer concepts with carefully selected examples and analogies. I believe I am quite capable of exercising patience when a student is trying to understand the subject, trying to…

Being able to meet the needs of the parents and students. Every student is unique and they have goals that they wish to achieve. Although these goals may be similar, I believe a chemistry tutor must listen attentively and work towards these particular targets so they can achieve what the student desires. A tutor also has to establish a sense of…

Being patient. A lot of teachers get frustrated when students do not understand concepts the way they teach them. It is important to teach every student in their own way and be patient with the teaching process. Otherwise a student's confidence and motivation to learn is harmed. My biggest strength would be communication. I am adept at explaining…

Make the student love the subject. There are many ways varying from a student to the other. If a student falls in love with the subject, he will comprehend it, not just learn it. I started tutoring when i was in undergraduate to my own class fellows and that was in 2002. With such a vast experience i have amazing teaching skills built-in…

The most important thing a chemistry tutor can do is inspire confidence. Within the class, it is a safe space for the student to talk about their short comings or lack of understanding. Tutors are essential for students who might have trouble learning at school, as school only showcases one method of teaching, which doesn’t work for everyone. Whereas tutors not only bring in an extra method of learning, they can also tailor their teaching to individual students, unlike in schools, where teachers have to teach classes, and…

Great service. Our tutor Iqra is excellent. Very responsible and always makes sure that Hazel feels comfortable with tasks. She often stays extra time to give Hazel breaks. Hazel has become more confident with maths and is enjoying it. I actually asked my daughter if she wanted to continue with tuition and she said, "yes mum it makes a difference ". That's all I needed to hear. Thank you for a great service.

Inside North RocksTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Cadence focused on calculating areas and perimeters as well as tackling division problems using her school homework.

Year 6 student Caesar worked through probability questions and practiced converting between different units of time.

For a high schooler, Year 8 Mia reviewed indices laws and completed revision exercises involving simplifying expressions with both positive and negative exponents.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student was reminded to "show working instead of thinking about the question," but often avoided writing steps in algebra, making it harder to catch errors and slowing progress on new concepts.

In Year 7, a student frequently forgot homework when revising for a test—this meant less targeted feedback during lessons.

Another senior student struggled with aligning decimals correctly in calculations, which led to answers being off by factors of ten or more.

Meanwhile, in primary years, one learner's messy handwriting made subtraction mistakes harder to spot; as a tutor noted, "his layout made it difficult to check his own work."

Recent Achievements

One North Rocks tutor noted that Jasper, a high school student, managed to solve extension-level algebraic equations and indices on his own after previously needing more support with similar problems.

In another recent session, Jacob, also in high school, successfully remembered and applied the laws of indices adaptively to new questions—he'd often hesitated before when presented with unfamiliar formats.

Meanwhile, Marcelino in Year 5 has begun thinking independently on number line questions instead of waiting for hints; last week he divided a number line into quarters by himself and explained his reasoning without prompting.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

The tutoring is going tremendously well.  The system you use, the high level of communication and dependability shown by Nirvan, and the teaching style is working exceptional well.  I'm very impressed with your service, and its meeting my (high) expectations.  I fully appreciate that this is not a quick fix, and it takes time.  We're committed to continuing this throughout Term 3 and 4 at least. The support and patience Nirvan is showing is really helping Emily, and he is supportive and has the capacity to challenge her at the right pace.  I've asked her why some things that we've tried to work through before have made more sense when explained by Nirvan.  She said that he works at her pace and stays with something until she understands it. Many thanks.  Your back-office communications is also highly supportive of parents and whilst you're delivering on what you've clearly explained, I find your level of communication extremely professional, supportive and consistent.

The tutoring seems to be going well. I've asked Niamh and she is also very comfortable and happy with Ben. First maths test since her tutoring with Ben started and she received a mark of 90 so I think we're on the right track.

We are very happy with Kieren. Quinn thinks it's fun and Ronan, although he's very shy, is comfortable with Kieren.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Carlingford Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like North Rocks Public School.
