The most important thing for an english tutor is to understand the needs of the student and then perform. Don't put unnecessary pressure on the students. Understand the student and encourage them in this battle of subjects you are there with them. The words of assurance are the only thing that the students require and then they will perform their…

Most importantly, an english tutor should be interactive with students and should motivate them to achieve their academic goals. I can make my classes…

As an english tutor, I believe it is my duty to make sure that students love to learn in general and not just for grades! It is very important to build their learning skills with creativity more than just learning the facts. I can communicate well with students and see eye to eye on difficult topic. Understanding what they understand and don't. If you don't adapt accordingly, not only will it take longer, but even if you can help them understand, you won't foster a sense of confidence in the student for further studies. Adaptability and a deeper understanding of the subject matter I'm teaching, which lets me approach problems from different…

Tutors should be a friendly guiding figure that the student feels that they can approach at any time for assistance. As an english tutor, the best thing that I can give to a student is the confidence for them to feel that they can achieve greater and better things. A tutor can also inspire a student to be like them, a positive role model that…

From my experience I noticed that there are students who still hold their voices at school when they have a doubt due to several factors. Once they are comfortable with an english tutor, they are more open to questions in their mind and try solving them one on one with the tutor. On this note, I find being a tutor amusing as I always find solving…

I think the most important aspect as an english tutor is to listen to the student and foster independence. They should be able to ask as many questions as possible and make them think and learn about problem solving. I think there are a lot of qualities that go into being a good tutor. A few of the most important skills for the field are patience…

I believe the most important things are to build confidence and foster independence. A tutor's job isn't just to help a student get a better grade on the next test; it's to give them the skills and self-belief to tackle future challenges on their own. This means creating a safe, supportive space where the student feels comfortable asking "silly"…

It sounds basic but it is a common error made by tutors. Making sure that the student understands more than just how to solve the problem. Even if they do not wish to pursue the field in the future, understanding the concepts will give them the confidence to approach all…

By breaking the tougher questions into small easier parts, student can understand it better First and…

Inside Notting HillTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Aanya practised telling time using both analog and digital clocks, and worked on identifying symmetrical shapes through hands-on drawing tasks.

Year 10 student Kevin focused on balancing redox equations as well as exploring the differences between galvanic and electrolytic cells using past exam questions.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Sarah completed detailed organic chemistry revision, tackling reaction pathways and structural isomers of homologous series with real VCAA-style problems.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 Chemistry, answers often lacked clear layout and consistent use of units, especially in calculation and equilibrium questions; as one tutor noted, "units need to be shown correctly at all stages of answer." This led to confusion when interpreting formulae or balancing redox equations.

In Year 9 Mathematics, working was sometimes scattered on the page or missing key steps in long division and fraction conversions, making it difficult to check reasoning.

A Year 4 student's homework revealed distraction during lessons, with unfinished word problems and skipped working for time-telling tasks—leaving her unsure how she arrived at each answer.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Notting Hill noticed a Year 11 student who previously rushed through calculation questions now takes a methodical approach, laying out each step clearly and using the correct SI units without reminders.

A Year 8 student, who used to get distracted during lessons, showed much better concentration last week—she was able to work through problems mentally and completed all set tasks without losing focus.

In a recent primary session, a Year 4 student confidently solved fraction addition and multiplication questions independently after struggling with mixed fractions earlier in the term.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Glen Waverley Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Pinewood Primary School.
