Science Tutor Bomaderry, NSW
Being patient, encouraging and compassionate to students, particularly those who struggle to grasp content, have learning difficulties and those that suffer from anxiety. Also, being an enthusiastic tutor is important to engage students in their learning and to make mundane topics seem more interesting. I am knowledgeable in my subject areas and…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to form strong relationships with them by getting to know them more personally, supporting the students through both academic success and struggles, and both knowing the students and understanding their mood or concerns. Local Reviews

From the moment Jess walked in the door she was engaging and warm. My daughter took to Jess straight away and the teaching methods were at my daughter's pace and gave her confidence in maths again. I'm glad I made the decision to use a tutor at this crucial at the start of high school. I'm already impressed by Jess' professionalism and successful teaching methods.

Inside NumbaaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Max focused on trigonometry, practicing finding unknown side lengths in right-angled triangles and working with area calculations for composite shapes.

For Year 10, Sarah worked through algebraic skills including factorising and solving two-step equations, using classwork examples to target specific difficulties.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Josh tackled past HSC questions involving annuities in financial mathematics and applied the least squares regression line to bivariate data analysis from a previous exam paper.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8, a student repeatedly left working out untidy when solving linear equations and ratio problems. As one tutor put it, "his formatting made errors harder to spot in multi-step solutions."

For Year 11, over-reliance on memorised rules—especially in trigonometry—meant formula recall was prioritised over real understanding, leading to confusion when unfamiliar angles appeared.

A senior student tackling HSC-level finance questions sometimes skipped writing steps for three- or four-mark answers, making it difficult to check calculations or justify reasoning under exam conditions.

Missed homework tasks in both junior and senior years limited the chance to address these persistent process issues together.

Recent Achievements

One Numbaa tutor noticed Andrea now actively reviews her exam mistakes and independently chooses new strategies for similar questions—a big step from earlier sessions when she hesitated to reflect on errors.

In another high school session, Laaibah recently solved network flow problems without prompting, after weeks of relying on hints to start each question.

Meanwhile, a younger student has started showing more working out in ratio questions instead of skipping steps as before.

Last week, Andrea wrapped up by confidently sketching transformed trigonometric graphs with varying periods and amplitudes on her own.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Cassidy has had one session with Scott. Cassidy came home very positive, saying that Scott was great at explaining concepts and that he will benefit from his tutoring support. Cassidy related well with Scott and seemed very impressed by his level of knowledge and by his academic progress at university. In effect, Scott is a great role model for Cassidy. I hope this all continues well.

Thanks for your email, Mitchell is really excited to have Ken as his tutor, he made a great impression when he came along for a chat and that high expectation has continued. He has a natural way with him and engages well with Mitchell, unlocking the mysteries and some tricks to understanding Math. We also like that Ken is a skilled tutor in many subjects so are looking forward to a long term relationship with him as a mentor for Mitchell. Someone that has worked hard to achieve success which is what we all want for our children. Thanks again I feel this match will be a good one.

Yes we are very happy with Jacinta. She is lovely and Emily likes her. She seems to be very suited to Emily, as she has a very practical approach to helping Emily with her Math's, and understood straight away what Emily's basic needs were. We look forward to Jacinta tutoring Emily this year.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Nowra (Central) Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Terara Public School.
