Listen to what the student has to say, and base their teaching strategy around their individual needs. If the tutor doesn’t listen to a student or understand their struggles with certain areas, how could the tutor expect good results from their student? I believe I am very clear and concise with what I teach, and that because of my openly…

A tutor should accelerate a students academic progress by pinpointing their errors, clarifying concepts and giving them principles they can apply independently to future problems. My strengths include providing targeted, personalised support and being able to identify the root cause of a students difficulties rather than only correcting surface…

Most students struggle to gain confidence in solving problems which in turn leads them to be unmotivated to study. Therefore, I believe that tutoring is not just teaching concepts but also building an environment where students feel comfortable to make mistakes and learn from it. From experience, I believe that the most effective way is to…

Being there and answering questions they ask at anytime whoch would be crucial. If a student puts effort into attending tutoring sessions then we should put the effort of helping them as much as we can. Ability to provide feedback continuously based on the students progess and able to go at a slow pace. As a university student I still have…

A tutor is not responsible for not passing the exam only, rather he needs to guide the student toward a better future for the student & a wellbeing for the society. I believe that "The teacher is the backbone of the nation". I can understand whether the student really understood or not. "Quality study" is more important than "Quantity study",…

It is to build the student's confidence, create a safe space to learn without judgment, and adapt their teaching to fit the student' needs. It's not just about helping them understand a topic - it's about helping them believe that they can. I believe that a good tutor has the the ability to help students build confidence for the classroom, and inspire them to be the best that they can be. Another thing that is important to me is not belittling the student or making them feel "stupid" for not understanding, but instead relating to them and helping them find a different way to solve…

I believe that a tutor needs to be able to explain a certain topic in different ways as one approach is not a fit for all. Alongside this, communicating and being emotionally intelligent allows to truly understand your student and how they deal with acedemic pressure etc. Ultimately, patience is the key when it comes to tutoring as students may…

For a tutor, the most important thing is to increase the curiosity of the student, for the subject that they are learning. Exams are important. However, at the end of the day I believe, the knowledge gained through the subject matter is far more important because it is something that can help to shape the future of the student. For example,…

To me, a tutor can make learning real, relevant and interesting.Tutor can make learning relevant to students's interest which in itself is half the battle won as research has proved that one learns things quickly if those aligns to one's interest. For e.g., a student who like solving maths puzzles will quickly learn new formulas and other things…

A teacher must be able to impart knowledge to his/her students. Help them to do the best they can, and to enjoy doing it. I believe that they go together, that "learning" which is not enjoyed is often, in the long run, not real learning at all, just hoop jumping. I consider one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is build their confidence. Once this is established and the student has faith in their own abilities, the tutor is able to guide and facilitate their learning as a pose to simply instruct. The role of the tutor is to recognise what the student is capable of doing on their own…

Important things: 1. To be well prepared for sessions; 2. To strive to develop a connection with the student. Such connection would enable the student to feel comfortable sharing his challenges; 3. Empathy: Understand how the student is feeling or understood a particular concept based on their behavioural and body language cues. This is because most students do not give explicit feedback. Understanding the student's learning pace: Every student is unique and have their own pace of learning. As a tutor you need to adapt to that. I am…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is ensuring his/her availability when they need it the most, in short being accountable to them. Apart from helping them learn the concepts, a tutor must ensure that they can give enough time to solve children's problems be it subject related or something else which can be personal. The tutor…

Local Reviews

My experience with Ezymath and in particular my tutor David has been fantastic. My tutor was flexible with time slots around my work commitments, encouraging when I was struggling and responsive to when I needed help.
Cathy, Oak Park

Inside Oak ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Max focused on multiplying and subtracting larger numbers and worked through basic area calculations for squares.

For Year 8, Ava tackled probability problems and statistics questions, using real-life scenarios to deepen her understanding.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Liam practiced factorising algebraic expressions and expanding brackets, building confidence with indices in preparation for an upcoming test.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 maths, one student regularly avoided writing down working for equations, saying, "I can do this in my head," which led to missed sign errors and confusion with negatives.

For a Year 8 algebra task, skipping steps meant the method was unclear, so extra time was spent finding mistakes instead of moving forward.

In Year 7 English, not meeting the required essay word count ("didn't understand he needed to use 100 words") resulted in lost marks and frustration.

Meanwhile, a primary student forgot their workbook for multiple sessions, delaying progress on basic arithmetic skills and causing repeated catch-up.

Recent Achievements

One Oak Park tutor recently noticed a Year 10 student who, after previously struggling with negative numbers and often getting sidetracked during lessons, now completes problems with negatives more accurately—even managing to stay focused for longer stretches.

In a senior session, a Year 11 student began actively asking questions about formulas for surface area instead of quietly moving on when unsure; he's also connecting symbols like 'r' to their meaning in context, which hadn't happened before.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student surprised her tutor by independently explaining errors in her own narrative writing and confidently sharing her opinions on the book club novel "Wonder."

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Glenroy Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Francis de Sales School.
