Never get angry at a student for asking the same question repeatedly. They are asking because we have not done a good enough job in explaining to them. So we must be patient and ensure we explain as clear as possible. It also very important for a tutor to encourage and motivate students. Sometimes students say they want to give up but we must…

As a tutor, I believe it is my duty to make sure that students love to learn in general and not just for grades! It is very important to build their learning skills with creativity more than just learning the facts. I can communicate well with students and see eye to eye on difficult topic. As for me, the most crucial thing should be improving their academic performances while arousing their interest in studying. To be specific, these are what I consider responsible tutorial behaviors. 1. Do sufficient pre-class preparation and make notes for every key point that you are going to talk about in detail. 2. Be patient in class. Think…

The most important thing a tutor can do is be there for the student. Unlike a teacher, the tutor has the luxury of being able to pace shift, and cater to the individual. Thus, taking absolute advantage of this 'power' is of the utmost importance, making sure that you, as a tutor, are meeting the needs of your student. I believe my strengths are…

A tutor's job is to teach. However, I do believe that the student's experience during their time learning most important. From my observations, students will not really pay attention if they are not interested or if they are not having a good time, which is why, in my opinion, it is important that students are having a good time while they are…

Each student has a unique way of thinking, understanding and implementing. The most important thing a tutor can do is to understand how their students minds work, adapt to their way of thinking and understanding, and conceptualize theory for beneficial implementation. Above all else, I think a tutor can give a student confidence in whatever work students have due. Once their confidence is built up, they will respond better to not just tutoring outside, but also teaching in the classroom and result to a deeper understanding of the content. I think I am well versed in most subjects, and am an excellent…

From my experience I noticed that there are students who still hold their voices at school when they have a doubt due to several factors. Inside Oakleigh SouthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Max worked on measurement, specifically converting between units and identifying types of angles using diagrams.

In Year 8, Chloe tackled algebraic fractions—simplifying and multiplying them—and also reviewed techniques for solving for x in linear equations.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Sam focused on speed calculations and practiced converting units of time within real-world word problems.

Recent Challenges

A Year 7 student repeatedly needed prompting to continue with long multiplication and rarely wrote out working, making it hard to pinpoint misunderstandings—"he needs constant reminder to do it systematically."

In Year 9 algebra, a lack of confidence meant correct answers were often left unattempted, despite knowing the method.

A Year 4 learner was easily distracted during worded problems, which slowed progress on multi-step division.

Meanwhile, a senior student preparing for geometry questions forgot basic angle rules and struggled to explain their reasoning aloud; this made error correction much slower in practice tests.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Oakleigh South noticed a Year 10 student who previously needed step-by-step help with algebra now solves simple equations on his own, only checking in for reassurance at the end.

In another session, a Year 8 student who used to leave worded problems unfinished has started working through each part methodically and completed all set questions without prompting.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner who would often lose focus during longer tasks managed to finish an entire worksheet on area and perimeter accurately after staying engaged for the whole lesson—something he hadn't done before.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

My daughter progressed so well with the support of your tutor, Eliran and we think she is ready to work independently. Thank you for providing a great educational service. We will keep you in mind if we need your support for the future.

Gabriele loves Monica and I will be looking at upping his tutorials to once a week after term 3. We are very happy. I have recommended your service to 4 of the parents of children in Gabriele's class. Unfortunately there has been a massive and noticeable drop in the teaching, motivation, and comprehension of mathematics for our class, but you have helped us immensely and I have passed this information on. Monica is a dream, and understands my son very well, and they have bonded quite quickly.

I am blown away by her expertise and professionalism as a tutor. I have had tutors before but never anyone as passionate. My daughter got so much out of her first session and Chloe was very informative with her feedback about my daughter. I have organised to book her twice a week as I am confident it will make a world of difference.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Warrigal Road Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Oakleigh South Primary School.
