The most important things I can do for students are to go through the problems with them step by step, to solve their problems in learning, and to prove they have the ability to solve the problems themselves. I have a PhD qualification in Materials Engineering and I am good at mathematics, engineering, and physics subjects. I have extensive…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do is to make the subject relevant to their lives. When I was a child, I always wonder if the knowledge from textbook are actually applicable in my future. With my overseas working experience and knowledge obtained through master degree, I can show students how what they’re learning applies to the…

The most important thing should be that a tutor treats their student with equal respect. Just because someone's older or further ahead in life doesn't mean that they command more respect. Everyone should be treated equally and with mutual respect. I also think the sessions should be made fun, the joy of learning should be expressed through the…

I believe that understanding is the most important thing a tutor must do for a student. Without comprehension, the tutor would not be able to communicate with the student in the same language, making it impossible for the tutor to address the issue the student is having and come up with solutions to help the student's condition. I am currently…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is empower them in their learning. In my opinion, the most critical responsibility of a tutor is not during the teaching phase, but in the phase that comes after the lesson. After learning the theory, the student will begin practising problems related to the topic and it is during this period, that most of the learning takes place. Hence, it is important for tutors to be there to…

A tutor can always assist a student to help understand all of their basic structural and systematic questions and problems. Also a tutor's guidance should inspire the student to work with dedication. I believe being able to provide individualised instructions is a crucial part of being a tutor. First and foremost is to have a set plan to what the course structure will be and how I will proceed because without the plan the student will have a lot of difficulty in understanding the concepts. The most important thing a tutor should do is to keep a check on whether the student is understanding the concept or not. One to one interaction, calm…

A tutor's responsibility includes building a student's confidence by helping them believe in their abilities, and to ensure they develop a deep understanding of concepts, not just memorization. Tailoring the teaching approach to the student's learning style is important for making the material more accessible. Also, creating a safe and supportive…

Helping them feel to comfortable to make mistakes, and then to learn from said mistakes. Inside OrmondTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Mia worked on solving simultaneous linear equations and finding gradients from y = mx + c, using graph sketches to visualise relationships.

Year 10 student Jacob revised completing the square and factorisation by grouping, then practised graphing parabolas using both techniques.

For Year 11, Sophie tackled index and exponential equations alongside revision of logarithm laws, focusing on simplifying complex expressions step-by-step.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra, one student's working was hard to follow: he often left out brackets and negatives, making it difficult to check for sign errors in factorising quadratics.

For a Year 11 probability task, another needed extra reminders to bring the right notes and practice sheets—forgetting materials slowed revision on conditional events.

A Year 10 student tackling simultaneous equations sometimes hesitated to show steps, especially with negatives; this meant time was lost fixing hidden calculation slips rather than moving ahead.

In senior calculus, over-reliance on notes for derivatives delayed progress when formulas weren't immediately at hand.

Recent Achievements

One Ormond tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to freeze when asked to solve simultaneous equations now working through them out loud, checking each step rather than staying silent and stuck.

In a recent high school session, a Year 12 student who had been avoiding surds altogether managed to simplify several on her own and even asked for extra examples.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who once rushed and guessed at multiplication facts slowed down during practice, carefully double-checking answers before moving on. At the end of his lesson, he finished all ten problems without errors.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bentleigh Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Yesodei HaTorah College - Ormond Campus. Alternatively lessons can be had at Ezy Math Tutoring Ormond, 5/596 North Rd, Ormond, 3204, VIC, 03 7073 7122
