As a tutor, it is important that you pass on the right knowledge to the student. Make them think about things by themselves instead of giving them straight away. A tutor, shouldn't discourage students if they ask a dumb question, they should resolve all their queries with a good understanding. A tutor's job is to support a student and be curious…

Explaining in the simplistic way that a student can understand. If you can not explain it in simple terms it means you do not understand it. The tutor should be patient and help the student understand. I am patient, easy going and quickly understand the problems that students face during their studies. Apart from the obvious requirements to provide sound academic knowledge and advice, the other aspect of tutoring that I consider most important is getting the student excited about learning. The best teachers have a successful balance of both aspects. When a tutor is excited about the content, that will get the student excited as well. An…

It's the responsibility of a tutor to meet students where they are at. Tutors should come to learn the boundaries of what their students do and do not understand and create structure and context for pushing those boundaries to ultimately envelop the knowledge they need to succeed. This can sometimes mean "back-filling" missing knowledge or…

The answer is easy. Be a good tutor. However what does a good tutor entail? The most important thing a tutor can do for their student, is the connection they between each each…

Inside Oxford FallsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Tom reviewed multiplying numbers and basic algebra, then focused on understanding data concepts like mean, median, mode, and range.

Year 8 student explored Pythagoras' theorem and applied it to problems involving right-angled triangles.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Ava tackled algebraic factorization and expanding brackets for her upcoming exam, with extra attention to combining like terms.

Recent Challenges

In Year 7, one student arrived without essential materials—"maybe getting some equipment? like paper, pencils, pen"—which made it harder to follow along during algebra practice.

In a senior session, as noted by a tutor, "he can get positive and negative values confused quite often," especially when calculator checks were skipped in multi-step problems.

For a Year 9 learner working on equations from worded problems, hesitation to write down information led to missed steps and incomplete solutions.

In each case, small lapses in organization or written process directly impacted accuracy and confidence at key moments.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Oxford Falls noticed one Year 10 student who used to get stuck on algebraic questions now independently applies the correct methods and even integrates positive and negative values with far less hesitation.

In Year 8, another student moved from making frequent mistakes interpreting mean and other data measures to confidently constructing formulas for missing variables after a few targeted sessions.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who previously waited for prompts has started attempting new multiplication problems on her own before asking for help, showing real initiative during her session by finishing all assigned practice without reminders.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Zac is progressing well and is enjoying his tutoring with Emily.  He has clicked with her and they seem to be working well together.

We really like Mark, his communication style really suits Remy, and he is able to work out what she needs very quickly. We would love to stay with him until the end of the year. They are a good match. Thank you

I came to Ezy Math tutoring honestly because tutoring seemed like the best thing that would fit into my timetable. What I didn't expect was how much I would enjoy teaching the students. I found myself excited to come to tutoring, committed to doing all the prep work and checking up on my students before and after a big exam. I'm not gonna lie, its a lot of work but with even more reward as you see the students you're teaching slowly start to understand and apply their content. I felt my greatest achievement was taking a 60% achieving student in the second year 10 maths class and encouraging and working with him until he was hitting mid-90s marks and had been accepted into ext 1 maths for this year. I'm sad to leave Ezy math because I really enjoyed tutoring but I Would definitely recommend it to anyone. The support at Ezy math was the best. Even though I never met a staff member I felt they were great at checking up on me and helping me when I needed it!

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Belrose Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Oxford Falls Grammar School.
