It is for the student to be able to appreciate and look at lessons in a good way such that the understanding goes beyond the textbook and more than just the pen and paper, s/he holds. I am very friendly and approachable. I know I can often talk my way through things. I try to open up first so the tutee can be more comfortable around me. I try to…

A tutor could help the student reach his or her goal. Help them gain the required knowledge through various tasks. But the most important thing would be to provide a logical and sensible direction in which the student could continue. And also not to be too judgmental and see that every student has his or her different capabilities in reaching…

A tutor is simply an extension of learning tool from school, when students feel like school's teaching may not be sufficient. A tutor must be able to accurately evaluate the student's level and how strong their understandings are, and design their lessons accordingly. Flexibly tailored lesson plans for students, as it is 1 on 1, are a must for the…

A Tutor must identify a student's strengths and weaknesses. Tutoring must happen both emotionally and academically. Everything seems to be going well so far, Angelina is finally ‘getting’ long division. She is stubborn in finding ways not to rote learn her times tables, however! Shahzad is very patient with her. We are finding the experience a very positive one.

Inside ParramattaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Lily focused on adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators and converting between mixed numbers and improper fractions.

In Year 8, Arjun worked through decimal operations and practiced constructing Venn diagrams to represent probability problems visually.

For Year 10, Jasmine tackled algebraic expansion involving surds as well as simplifying expressions containing square roots, reinforcing her understanding with step-by-step examples.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra, one student did not do homework and struggled to recall steps for simplifying fractions, making progress slower in lessons.

A Year 10 learner showed a pattern of avoiding written working in trigonometry, which meant errors with minus signs and brackets weren't spotted until review.

For a primary student, messy subtraction work and distractions—such as drawing on the page—led to frequent inaccuracies; physical counters were introduced to help clarify thinking.

In senior maths, skipping revision of non-linear graphs left gaps that reappeared in new problem types, causing visible frustration during timed tasks.

Recent Achievements

A Parramatta tutor noticed a real shift in Rishi's approach to algebra: after initially struggling with expanding brackets, he asked for help, worked through examples, and by the end was confidently solving them solo—something he'd avoided before.

In another session, Sheldon moved from frequent rounding mistakes to self-correcting after working through problems step-by-step with his tutor.

Meanwhile, a younger student who previously hesitated with double-digit subtraction began using the number line independently and now starts questions without prompts.

Last week, Rishi also applied new fraction manipulation skills on his own in classwork.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Granville Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Arthur Phillip High School.
