Truly teach students. Not tell them the answer, however guide the students to find the answer themselves. In my experience as a student, I was never truly challenged in my tutoring leading me to drop the class and self-learn instead. I aim to teach and be patient with students to ensure they feel empowered and confident to undergo all school…

Make sure to help them at anytime and with anything they need help with. I don’t believe in tutors who can’t help students if they have any questions which is not related exactly with the topic they are studying. It’s very important that tutor is able to help a student with any query they have. I am really good at articulating myself. I…

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is create a safe and supportive space where the student feels comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. Learning can be intimidating, especially when someone is struggling, so it’s crucial that a tutor builds trust and encourages curiosity without judgment. When a student feels safe…

As a tutor, our main obligation is to implement methods of teaching that allows students to understanding the materials in a way that isnt too complex, but at the sametime, yields the required results when the time comes around. The most important things a tutor can do for a student is firstly enhance their knowledge. Also schools may be a great learning space, sometimes because of the amount of students in a class, it may become hard for a child to communicate and get extra help from the teacher. Thus, a tutor is able to provide this by directly helping students and…

The most important thing a tutor can do would be to personalise the study plan and instruction to ensure that the student's weaknesses and strengths are being addressed and to have the patience to explain concepts repeatedly if the student doesn't understand it at first. I think the most important thing for a tutor to do is to always be available to the students for any questions they may have, in and outside of the lesson. This is because I beleive that being afraid to ask questions is the biggest barrier to learning as this conversational aspect is crucial to understanding a concept entirely. Apart from that,…

Inside PemulwuyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Aryan worked on addition using number lines and practised multiplication questions to build fluency.

In Year 10, Patrick focused on discrete probability concepts from his yearly exam, including expected value and variance, and also reviewed applications of trigonometry in two dimensions such as angles of elevation and depression.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Ali completed HSC-level revision under timed conditions with an emphasis on differentiation techniques and integrating exponential functions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 4, one student hesitated to show working for double-digit multiplication and needed reminders to recall each step without relying on previous solutions.

"He often began from the right but lost track of the next steps," a tutor noted, which led to confusion midway.

In Year 11 Maths, another student became overly dependent on formula sheets rather than interpreting what a probability or integration question truly required; this habit left her stumped by unfamiliar wording during practice exams.

When faced with multi-step algebra in Year 9, skipping written working hid key errors—making it hard to spot where she went wrong.

Recent Achievements

A Pemulwuy tutor recently noticed a Year 12 student coming to each session with specific questions prepared, a big shift from last term when he'd wait passively for guidance—he even completed two years' worth of HSC papers independently and pinpointed his weak spots himself.

In Year 10, another student who previously hesitated to speak up now regularly asks for clarification as soon as something doesn't make sense, sometimes even requesting alternative solutions.

Meanwhile, a younger student in primary school started drawing dot arrays to tackle multiplication problems—something he avoided before—and now finishes simple times tables with little help.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Greystanes Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Ebenezer Christian College.
