It is always important to enhance the basics for my students before assisting them with the concept aspects of the subject. Through communicating with the student, I would try my best to answer all possible questions requested by the student and instil confidence for my students throughout each lesson. I have many strengths as a tutor. I have the…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them not only build the skills they need for the subject they're being tutored in, but also to build the skills to be confident of themselves within it as well. From my experience being tutored both in maths and for an instrument, that was something my tutors helped me with,…

The most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to help them improve as much as they can in a given subject. I feel confident in a leadership and teaching role due to my previous experience leading primary and high school aged kids at my church. I am also patient and very eager to help improve the skills of any students in their…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is help students build the confidence and skills to learn independently. A tutor's role isn't only to explain concepts, but also to equip students with the strategies and mindset to approach new material independently. By guiding them to understand the basics deeply and think critically, tutors can…

The most important thing would be to connect with the student, be on the same wavelength. If you can connect with your student then you can understand their struggles learning the content. It also allows the student to be more relaxed and less stressed which aids in their learning. If they see the process of getting tutored as a chore or a burden…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be loving. I think the most important thing a tutor can do is build a student's confidence and make learning feel approachable. When students feel supported and understood, they're far more likely to engage, ask questions, and take risks, which is where real growth happens! A great tutor doesn't just explain the content clearly; they also adapt to the…

I believe being able to relate and support your student is the most fundamental aspect of tutoring, as it allows you to effectively gauge where they are struggling and excelling. As not every student can be treated in the same manner, this understanding is quintessential in ensuring that one's student is enjoying tutoring and growing in knowledge…

A tutor needs to be a good role model both as a peer and a teacher. Understanding the issues of a student. I believe that tutors should be able to understand why a student is struggling with something, and help them according to their strengths and weaknesses. A student won't be able to learn with advice that isn't applicable to them, because everyone's capability to learn isn't at the same level. Gaining a…

I believe that the tutor's purpose is not to make the student rely on them, but rather to give them the tools to figure things out for themselves. I think it's a question of what a tutor can BE rather than do. I found in my experience that I always responded to teachers who were enthusiastic and portrayed a genuine care for the learning of the student. In a metaphorical sense, the tutor must think like a student in an empathetic way rather than merely be a one way stream of instruction. If a…

Be encouraging - Student's won't understand something straight away and this can be a source of discouragement for them. The last thing they need is a tutor who refuses to acknowledge this. Inside PenshurstTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Aaliyah focused on simplifying like terms in algebra and practiced applying these skills through targeted exercises.

Year 9 student Jessica worked through worded probability questions, such as drawing colored discs from a bag, and solved equations involving negative numbers and unknown pronumerals.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Sophie revised Pythagoras' theorem by tackling test-style problems and also created an essay template for English to support her writing skills.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11, one student's exam performance was affected by time management issues; as observed, "she ran out of time and left several questions unfinished," leading to unnecessary loss of marks despite knowing the material.

For a Year 8 student, dependency on tutor prompts was evident—she often waited for hints before attempting questions, slowing independent problem-solving.

A Year 4 learner struggled to lay out her thinking clearly on paper; when asked to "write everything she thinks of," she found it difficult to track her working, causing confusion during multi-step BODMAS tasks.

Recent Achievements

One Penshurst tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to leave answers unsimplified now independently checks and simplifies her solutions without prompting—a big shift from relying on hints in past sessions.

Another high school student recently recognised every mistake in her maths test, then confidently corrected them herself and completed the rest of the questions accurately, showing new self-awareness and resilience.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who would hesitate with mental calculations is now eager to attempt challenging multiplication problems out loud and even asks for tougher ones when she finishes early.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I wanted to send a quick note to advise how impressed I was with the young man who visited our home to commence tutoring my son Samuel last week, Darius.  He was absolutely delightful and both Sam and I are looking forward to improving Sam's math with Darius' assistance and support this year.  Although it was our initial meeting with Darius I feel that he will be an excellent role model for my son moving forward.

Ezy Math Tutoring was an excellent service for my daughter who had been finding maths hard.   It provides one on one tuition at the home of the student and the tutors tailor the work directly to the needs of that student.    I recommend Ezy Math Tutoring as it is well organised,  efficient and highly convenient.    Our tutor was very patient and helpful and our daughter's maths grades improved.  In addition, we received progress reports, and information regarding further maths resources.

Ally seems to have settled in very well with Ben and enjoys learning with him. She finds that he is easy to understand and explains mathematical concepts well.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Penshurst Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Declan's Catholic Primary School.
