I think the most important thing a tutor can do is not pressure students and understand that everyone learns differently. Not all students will get something right away, and what matters is being patient and staying with them through the process until they understand. I believe it is about making them feel supported instead of rushed, so they can…

I have rarely ever used the same method of explaining a concept/theory on multiple students. It is really important for tutors to understand the needs and abilities of their students in order to maintain progress. It is also crucial for tutors to have time-management and resourceful qualities in order to ensure academic development in students.…

The most important thing is to be of assistance. Every student has the potential to achieve good marks and be great at something. We as tutors need to learn and understand students as individuals. We need to guide and assist them as best as possible so they can forge there own career path. We were also students at one point in our life and we also…

A tutor can make use of the two kinds of experience he/she has. Firstly as a current/former student himself, he can impart a deeper and thorough understanding of the subject keeping in mind the future academic curriculum and its practical applications. Secondly his experience as a tutor means a patient engagement with his student, where in the…

It is very important that a tutor understands the strengths and weakness of a student and approach them accordingly. A personalised approach would be the best method to adopt and it is important to help the students become independent learners. In my view, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them develop a deep understanding of the subject matter. This means going beyond simply helping them complete assignments and prepare for exams, and instead working with them to build a foundation of knowledge and skills that they can apply to future challenges. A good…

Support. Providing a great amount of support and motivation is crucial for a student’s education path. The most important thing a tutor can do is to be open and offer an open exchange of exchange of information that allows a student to freely delve into a subject. Inside PlumptonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Georgia focused on HSC-style trigonometry questions and revising her recent exam paper, targeting past mistakes.

For Year 11, Zara worked through differentiation using first principles as well as algebraic equations from her school maths assignment.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Daniel practised probability questions from previous HSC papers and explored applications of trigonometry in bearings problems, often using real-world scenarios to reinforce concepts.

Recent Challenges

Several process-related challenges were observed across different year levels.

In Year 9, one student left homework incomplete for over two weeks, causing her to forget recently taught algebra skills; as the tutor noted, "this was shown through the lesson today."

A Year 11 student's exam performance suffered due to poor time management—he rushed only near the end, missing easy marks earlier.

In Year 7 mathematics, written work often lacked clear layout and full working out, especially on multi-mark problems, making it hard to spot where understanding broke down.

When assignments or practice were delayed or skipped, progress slowed and confidence dipped.

Recent Achievements

A Plumpton tutor recently noticed a Year 11 student, Ryan, who used to leave tricky HSC-style questions blank, now attempts every problem and explains his reasoning out loud—even when unsure.

In Year 9 maths, Ali has started tackling differentiation proofs with less hesitation, remembering key identities without needing reminders like before.

Meanwhile, Shay in Year 5 managed the extension section of her homework with minimal help after previously struggling to stay focused; she finished all tasks without distraction and got nearly every answer right on her own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mt Druitt Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Plumpton Public School.
