I think for a tutor it's being able to be contacted even after lesson hours. As for maths, it's very difficult to find solutions online and last minute stress before an exam is not good, so I think being available to be contacted and being flexible is the most important thing for a tutor. I like to make the classes interactive and fun to keep…

I think that these 3 things are a must : Work on Student’s strengths. Look for students interests , so we can connect them to the contents being thought. Constant feedback I have good rapport with students , and I firmly believe that all starts with connection, so students can feel at ease. Adaptability is key because with individual…

As I touched on previously, the understanding that each student learns differently is important for ensuring that my tutoring sessions are valid. I believe that the best thing a tutor can do for their students is adapt to the student's unique learning style and ensure that they are not only understanding the concepts, but also enjoying their time…

Allow the student to discover rather than memorise - I understand that subjects such as Maths can feel overwhelming if given as rote learning. Instead, allowing the students to discover the content for themselves not only helps with retaining information, but can make learning fun! Build the student's confidence - There is no "stupid answer",…

What I consider to be the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to build a relationship with them. Listening to a student, assessing what areas they struggle with most, and celebrating the accomplishments they have made in their studies (whether big or small), is key in strengthening the student's trust in the tutor. In turn, this…

Among the most important things a tutor can do for a student is that a tutor must be able to understand a student's learning style so that the student would be able to learn the material in a way that is analogous to their mode of synthesising knowledge. A tutor must do this all the while being open and kind and most especially warm towards the…

A tutor should break down complex concepts into manageable parts, helping students understand rather than just…

A tutor or at least a teacher is someone who can give students a helping hand, perhaps a friend is too informal but someone they can relate to. I think being able to understand your student and what makes them improve or how they can improve is also essential as a tutor and a teacher. It is useless to spoon feed facts and knowledge to a student if…

I believe that the two most important things a tutor can do for a student is to have both sympathy and empathy when approaching difficult concepts, in order to prevent a student from giving up, in addition to being organised and prepared. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is being prepared. I have had 1-1 Spanish tutoring in the past, and every week my tutor would arrive prepared with documents and interactive lessons, which were fundamental in enriching my learning of the subject and making the sessions more enjoyable. Additionally, the tutor needs to maintain…

Being not just a teacher, but a mentor, a model of inspiration in their life to look forward to. What I consider the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to foster a healthy and suitable learning environment. I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is help a student build self-confidence. From my own experience, I know that grasping a concept feels much harder when it seems 'impossible.' Help them to understand that they can learn. That they understand that teaching is one aspect of the education process and the other is learning. That all students have the capacity to learn especially if the teacher is prepared to apply their best effort to offering those students a way to understand the information. This can be assisted if both…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to ensure that the child fully understands the lesson, and finds purpose in it. The student should not only study it because it is a requirement, but because they find it interesting, This I believe is a very crucial task for tutors. If a child is passionate about a subject, they will automatically study…

Many students struggle not because they lack ability, but because they doubt themselves. If it's a correct match of a student and a teacher, then definitely a tutor can change the overall personality of his student and in turn learn from him as well. It's not only about grades and positions but about life changing lessons that a tutor can give to his students. I am dedicated and true to my students, and according to me this is the…

Local Reviews

When searching for a maths tutor that my daughter would connect with, I researched & considered several options. In the end, we decided to give EzyMath a go - & it's been a wonderful experience. My daughter really liked & connected with the tutor they recommended. She feels comfortable with her & even enjoys the sessions. They've only had a meet each other session plus 2 proper sessions & already my daughter is more at ease & positive towards maths.....she even feels she's improved in this short period. I also found the management easy to collaborate with as I wanted her to meet two tutors in order to select the one she felt most comfortable with. They were responsive & helpful.

Inside Point PiperTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Isaac revised key algebra foundations and began tackling Year 7 content, focusing on simple equations and the meaning behind multiplication and division sentences.

In Year 8, Bella worked through linear relationships using real-life examples and practised interpreting graphs to consolidate her understanding.

For Year 10, Ethan explored financial mathematics concepts like profit growth percentages through worded questions and applied these in rich tasks for practical application.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student faced timing and time management issues in exams—"timing needs some improvement"—resulting in unfinished questions, particularly with non-linear equations.

For a Year 9 learner, difficulty showing step-by-step algebra working meant errors went unnoticed; as one tutor observed, "not able to demonstrate how he found the answers and why he used a certain step."

In Year 6, forgetting formulas for volume left one student unable to attempt several measurement problems without prompting.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 child's subtraction strategies were unclear on paper, making it hard to spot mistakes or explain reasoning during review.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Point Piper recently noticed a Year 12 student who, after previously relying on mental maths and skipping steps, now carefully writes out each stage when solving one-step equations, showing much more attention to detail.

Another high schooler demonstrated real initiative by tackling past papers independently before their exam—something they hadn't attempted unprompted before—and came to the session with thoughtful questions about tricky assessment terminology.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 student who had struggled with vertical subtraction finally managed to solve three-digit subtraction problems using the trading technique without needing reminders.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Double Bay Central Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Cranbrook School.
