The primary reason why a student may hire a tutor is to give them the in-depth understanding of "Why" the concept is the way it hence. Hence, explaining them the core concept, which enables them to solve the problems during their exams and assignments without having any second doubts. Additionally, as a part of tutor, it is my responsibility to…

Being a tutor is about being genuine and sincere in teaching, and to realize that we play a major role in being a witness to the students' growth. Our job is to give a pathway for students to be engaged in the subject, give a reason to why they should learn it, and for them to accomplish great things in the future. Teach not only concepts but how…

It's essential to be understanding and listen to students as not all the students are the same or behave the same in a class. Therefore, a tutor must understand the extraordinary things about each student and act in a way so every student would be interested in engaging with the class. I believe understanding this point can help every child to…

For me, a tutor is not only helping the student with their homework and answering questions, it is about building trust and creating a comfortable learning environment that sparks the interest of knowledge for the students. I believe that active learning can be done if the students are intrigued by the knowledge and see how it is relevant and…

A quality, which I believe tutors should give their students is confidence. The key to mastering any formula or topic is being confident enough to put oneself forward and try it. After all, we cannot find out their strengths or weaknesses without giving a question a shot. A tutor can improve their student’s confidence through repeated practice,…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to firstly just listen and understand the student needs and wants. Secondly, a tutor should not use a standard classroom approach to tutoring and rather coach and train the student accordingly to the requirements of the student as every individual learns and absorbs information differently.…

In my opinion, one of the most important things a great tutor can do for a student is to increase their passion for the subject. When a student genuinely enjoys learning about a topic, they will be more motivated. When students love what they're learning, it unlocks their potential. That energy and excitement will hopefully lead to a deeper…

For a student, the most essential thing a tutor can do is imparting complete knowledge as half knowledge is dangerous. So, when a child is fully aware of something, he can be confident enough to explore more beyond his imagination. A tutor must be resilient enough to teach students in the best way. The strength of a tutor lies in his knowledge and…

The most important thing as a tutor is to be patient and understanding. As someone who has gone through the same thing, I'm relatable. My strength is…

Every student has different expectations from a tutor and thus the most important thing might vary from student to student. Inside Port MelbourneTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Gracie worked on subtraction with three-digit numbers and explored shape names and angles, using spelling and class-based examples.

In Year 10, Lucas focused on reviewing quadratic equations as well as graphing parabolas in preparation for an upcoming test, tackling both theory and practice problems.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Mia concentrated on logarithms through a mix of concept worksheets and practice tests, followed by targeted revision of differentiation techniques and their application to rates of change.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student in Math Methods struggled with application questions, as "missing a few important messages" in complex scenarios meant key details were overlooked. Test anxiety also impacted performance: if stuck on one question, time pressure would affect the rest of the test.

For a Year 9 student, skipping steps when working out solutions led to errors in logic and proofs—one tutor observed, "must double check and write down each individual step."

In Year 7 English, creative writing lacked punctuation and flow; sentences jumped abruptly between scenes without transition, making stories hard to follow.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Port Melbourne noticed a big shift with one Year 11 student who previously hesitated to tackle tough graph sketching questions; now, she confidently labels asymptotes and vertices, even opting to solve worded problems using inferred details.

In another session, a Year 12 student who once struggled with applying differentiation rules has become so comfortable that he quickly works through polynomial questions without prompting.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student has started openly identifying which maths concepts feel tricky for her—something she never did before—which means lessons can now target those areas right away.

Last week, she carefully read data on her own to find the median from a stem-and-leaf plot.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We asked for assistance on a short term basis to help with some exam preparation.  Our tutor was quickly able to assess our daughter's capability and provide practical assistance with problem solving and techniques. Most importantly the tutor instilled real confidence in our daughter's ability, offering encouragement, support and reinforcement all the way.  We would not hesitate to contact Ezy Math for our future needs.

We are very happy with the tutoring work that Adedayo has done with Harrison so far. He has quickly formed a great rapport with Harrison and are they working very well together. Adedayo has been very encouraging and has managed to give Harrison confidence in his abilities even though they have only had a few sessions together. Harrison looks forward to his tutoring and has positive approach to sitting down and working with Adedayo. We look forward to continuing the tutoring arrangements and positive outcomes for Harrison.

We are very happy with Aurelius, he has turned something that was "like another language" (according to Aaron) into something he understands and has found his first test easy. We intend to hold onto Aurelius for as long as he wants to coach Aaron.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Port Melbourne Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Albert Park College-Environmental Arts Hub.
