Science Tutor Booker Bay, NSW
Implement creativity and a willingness to try is the most important skill a tutor can pass on to their students. Once a student builds a willingness to try and a need to challenge themselves, they will be more likely to build good habits and routines around creating these pathways for themselves. I always ask myself 'how do students learn' and…

Science Tutor Umina Beach, NSW
I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is show genuine care for the student's learning. Additionally, having a passion for teaching is vital, because with no passion and care, the tutoring interactions with the student are inauthentic. My greatest strength as a tutor is being able to change the way I explain a concept so…

Tutor has to be completely sure that students understood all provided information very clear. This gives them filling of confidence, happiness, and satisfaction. I can explain the information in different simple understandable ways. When I studied Diploma in Building and Construction in TAFE, we had subject which called structure. I could explain…

Help them to improve their abilities in areas they are not so confident in. Be there for them as a mentor as well as a teacher. I am organised and work well with others. I also have a good grasp of the subject. Sometimes I pay too much attention to small…

Science Tutor Woy Woy, NSW
I think that whilst having adaptive teaching methods is important, ensuring the student constantly feels supported and motivated by the tutor is vital. For me, in school no matter how much I was struggling (especially in maths) I found that having a great, understanding teacher, allowed me to not be afraid of asking ‘stupid’ questions. So for…

Science Tutor Green Point, NSW
I believe that tutors should provide all-round mentorship to students and that this is one of the most important things that can come of tutoring; helping them to feel more confident in approaching problems they have in their everyday lives and to search for the answers to the questions that they have about the world around them. I am very patient…

Science Tutor
The most important thing a tutor can do is give a student the confidence to continue to achieve and learn for themselves. If they can believe in themselves and keep working, they will succeed regardless of their level. I am personable and easy-going, able to meet the student where they need to be met. I have a genuine passion for mathematics and…

Leo is a great match for Roy and they both seemed to have made it work from the start. He is approachable and communicates well and Roy understands what and how he is saying things, so, so far so good.

Inside Pretty BeachTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Zac worked on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions—including switching between mixed and improper forms—and practiced using words like "of" to understand fraction questions in context.

In Year 8, Yillen tackled surface area and volume of shapes as well as applying Pythagoras' theorem to real-life measurement problems, often breaking down each formula step by step.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Aidan focused on rearranging formulas to find unknowns and substituting values into equations, reinforcing these skills through targeted homework questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student left notes and their workbook at school, arriving to a lesson without key materials—this made effective revision before an exam impossible.

In a Year 11 session, a calculator was missing, so the tutor had to work out answers instead; "he didn't have a calculator handy," which interrupted practice with Pi-based questions.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student skipped writing working in column addition, leading to simple mistakes that were hard to spot afterwards.

Without regular home practice (noted for both Years 7 and 9), basic concepts like ratios or significant figures remain shaky going into new topics.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Pretty Beach noticed that one high school student, previously hesitant to speak up, began volunteering answers during problem-solving and could tackle some questions unaided by the end of the lesson.

Another secondary student made a significant shift by openly requesting extra homework for more challenge—something he hadn't done before—and later described how feedback from his teacher helped him identify where he'd gone wrong on an assignment.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 student who used to need encouragement with money problems is now drawing her own currency diagrams and independently working through addition and subtraction challenges.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Yes we are happy with the way things have started.  Ahmad-Firdauz has been very helpful and we believe has already helped Jayden improve is focus. Jayden has a math test today which we are hopeful show improved results even if by just a slight margin.

Jeevan is happy with Posearn's approach and seems to have settled well with the arrangement. He has been on time every lesson and seems to be a dedicated tutor. We are looking forward to seeing progress in Jeevan's Maths grades but for now we are pleased that he has someone he can turn to for help when he encounters problems with homework.

Kyle engaged with Josephine very quickly. He has a delightfully engaging and affirming nature. She opened up immediately and felt more confident to tackle maths problems in the session. Very pleased to have him on board.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Umina Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Pretty Beach Public School.
