I believe providing academic guidance and support is the most obvious thing a tutor can do for a student. It is the first reason why any parent hires a tutor for their children. If a student is struggling with their learning, a tutor can move at the pace of their student and tailor teaching methods for that individual specifically. Secondly, a…

I think the bonding between the tutor and the student is very important. If the student doesn't feel comfortable talking to the tutor, he or she will never learn effectively. They need to be comfortable enough so that they can ask questions whenever they need to! I am a very easy person to talk to. I am not shy and am willing to speak up. As a…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to become an understanding tutor. There is no point of forcing a student to learn something that they have no interest at. As a tutor, we should understand our students and help them to enjoy the subject they first do not like. Additionally, we should be able to figure out something that…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to guide them towards the right answer without spoon-feeding them so they are able to effectively find the answer by themselves. My strengths as a tutor include proficiency in the subject that I am teaching and patience with the student if they don't understand what I am trying to say so I…

I think it goes without saying that a tutor should help their student/s to understand concepts so that the student can improve on their grades. But I believe that tutoring goes so much further beyond that. A tutor should strive to truly engage the student in their learning. A good tutor will motivate and inspire the student so that they are…

1) Never make them feel that their doubt is small or way too easy. 2) Make sure they always ask questions and provide them with right answers. 3) Never give out the solution of any given problem at once but rather provide them small details, eventually helping them make their way out of the question on their own. By doing this, students tend to…

There are a number of short-term and long-term goals I have for my students/mentees: In the short-term, I seek to make material engaging and more easily digestible. Students should see an immediate benefit from having concepts explained by a supplemental source in several different forms. In the long-term, and perhaps most importantly,…

The most valuable thing that a tutor can do for a student is to clarify the ideas, as well as assist the student in organising their study time and provide them with the appropriate direction. The most important thing I can do is continuously adapt to a student’s evolving learning needs. Students are at a crucial stage of cognitive development, and their understanding can shift from one lesson to the next. A tutor must assess their learning style in every session, adjusting explanations and approaches accordingly. What worked well in…

I think the most important thing may be to identify the individual needs of the student. During my work as an educational-psychological advisor, I used to write detailed reports outlining the student's strengths, learning style, and goals. When this was followed up, it made a very positive impact on the student's learning outcomes. I believe that…

For me, the most important things a tutor can do for a student include helping through their academic struggles, but in a way which is reinforcing and allows the student to fully grasp a concept and find satisfaction in it. Moreover, a tutor should not only be able to explain and break down concepts to students, but also provide exam and study…

I believe that a tutor can be a great companion and listening ear for students, beyond ensuring a lateral transfer and teaching of information. Having traversed the same path, they can also be a mentor and guide students on a potentially confusing educational journey. A tutor's reassurance is therefore very important as it can create a more…

Great service, fantastic tutors, always punctual and pleasant.

Inside Queens ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Liam focused on fraction arithmetic and reading comprehension, using short texts to practice extracting key information.

For Year 8, Chloe worked through linear equations involving substitution as well as area and volume calculations for basic geometric shapes.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Noah revised quadratic equations—covering both factorisation methods and decomposing linear terms—to build confidence with more complex algebraic manipulation.

Recent Challenges

In recent Year 9–11 maths sessions, Aaron's working was frequently disorganised and incomplete, with steps missing or muddled—"working needs work, messy and without proper order nor structure."

During algebra tasks, he often copied algorithms without understanding the logic behind each step, which led to persistent calculation errors and confusion when context changed.

In senior-level geometry and trigonometry, over-reliance on memory instead of methodical reasoning caused mistakes; for example, Aaron sometimes guessed at answers or "forgot everything ratio" if a question mixed topics.

When tired or frustrated, he would abandon questions prematurely rather than attempt a systematic approach.

Recent Achievements

One Queens Park tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student's approach to tricky algebra: after weeks of rushing through calculations and making errors, he's now writing out each step and catching mistakes himself—something he avoided before.

In Year 11, another student who used to quietly guess at answers in probability lessons has started asking clarifying questions whenever she gets stuck, which is new for her and shows real initiative.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who once hesitated during reading time now volunteers to read aloud and explains how she draws conclusions from the text.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Waverley Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Moriah College.
