The most important thing a tutor can do is understand what is challenging the student. Sometimes we think it’s just that the topic is harder than previous ones, but it could be mental or emotional stress too. So to keep the student calm n focused and make them enjoy the subject, will automatically produce good results. I am patient as I…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them feel confident in their understanding, which allows them to be better learners overall. This is done through understanding how they learn things best, whether through diagrams, metaphors, or a direct example of the concept to start. This allows them to build…

Most importantly to a student a tutor is there to provide a student with the most positive, educational experience that suits the student's needs. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is teach them the material in a way that makes sense to that student. I believe that boosts a student's confidence in the school environment as they are receiving additional help from outside. All of these effects will result in better grades for a student, once again fostering more confidence, and cycling back to better grades. I…

Learn with the student. I am striving to be a better person each day, with it, comes humility. I believe that if you come to the student appearing human and able to make mistakes (as I am not a robot), the student will understand that I am not intimidating nor a machine, but rather human just like they are. As tutoring gives a more face to face approach, a tutor can do more than a teacher on some occasions for a student as they give more individual focus on each student's weakness and strengths. The most important thing I can do for a student is giving them the time, knowledge and hands-on approach others who cannot do that for them. Tutoring can…

Inside RamsgateTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Max worked on expanding and simplifying algebraic equations, as well as revising for an upcoming English speech.

For Year 9, Olivia focused on multiplying and dividing algebraic expressions and refining TEEL paragraph writing for Romeo and Juliet.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Michael practised solving trigonometric function problems (sine, cosine, tangent) with missing values and applied these skills to real-world worded questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 mathematics, one student repeatedly arrived without completed homework or revision, so sessions had to revisit old material rather than progress—"I end up having to spend the next week covering what I went through the previous week," a tutor noted.

In Year 11, a different student's written algebra was disorganised; steps were missed or left unwritten, which made it hard to spot errors in exam-style questions.

Meanwhile, a primary student misplaced homework sheets and wrote on scraps instead of using the booklet provided, leading to forgotten tasks and incomplete spelling practice by the next lesson.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Ramsgate noticed a Year 11 student who previously struggled with worded exam questions is now breaking them down more independently, using her own strategies to make sense of tricky language.

Another high schooler, after initially submitting very short TEEL paragraphs, recently wrote a much longer response and managed to edit it herself without prompting.

Meanwhile, one primary student—who used to guess spelling test answers—has started quietly sounding out each word before writing and completed last week's list with no mistakes for the first time.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I just wanted to let you know that Arielle's recent yearly Maths marks were the best she has ever had. Usually he marks are in the high 30's ( the test is out of 60) but this time she scored 50 out of 60! Arielle was thrilled and I know this has really boosted her confidence regarding her Maths abilities as she always felt Maths was too hard. I have noticed a definite change in her attitude to Maths tutoring with Ivan. She no longer dreads the session and is able to remain focused and attentive the whole time. This has given her the confidence to begin her new school next year with a positive attitude towards Maths.

Once again I really appreciate your help over the last few months. The structured format that EzyMaths brings to tutoring appears to provide a clear framework and guidelines for the tutors to work within. Combined with a really outstanding young tutor in Calvin this has had been very beneficial for Dom. I congratulate you on a great model and wish the business success for the future.

Shay is really enjoying the tutoring and Ben is a great tutor.  She is already improving in her maths, which was the objective.  Shay even does her extra math homework without argument which is amazing .  We look forward to working with Ben for the rest of this term and next year.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Sans Souci Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Ramsgate Public School.
